Hey guys, i'm looking to buy a new lens to shoot ski (photo and video). I want something not too expensive but with a pretty good image and a good f-stop. The Canon 50mm fits perfectly in these criterias but I wonder if it's gonna be a too big focal length. Will I have to stand far away from a guys to get the shoot. For example, for filming a trick on a rail, how far will i need to be? Thanks
Assuming you're shooting on a crop sensor (Txi, XXD) you might have some trouble. 50mm is a pretty long lens on APSC sized sensors and you'll have to be a good distance away. I would advise going for a 35mm f2 if you want a prime, or something like a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 for a zoom.
yeah in fact I have a canon t3i with the kit lens(18-55mm), so I'll probably look more into a prime lens and i'd like a wider aperture than my f3.5. I'll look for this 35mm. What else should I look for? I want something affordable.
So 4 skiing I recomend (along with every other filmer on this site) the tokina 11 16. Id say just use ur kit lens (if you use them right you can produce ok images) til u have enough for the 11 16
I haven't heard much about this lens, but just make sure it isn't an EF-M lens, as that will not work with your camera. Assuming you have have a t3i or something along those lines.
22 is a pretty weird focal length.. Off the top of my head, the 28mm f1.8, 35mm f2, and the 20mm f2.8 are the only canon primes I can think of around that focal length. The 35 will be the cheapest of the three. The 28 might be a better bet if you're willing to pay a little more though.
I tried out my friends and I honestly hated it. The AF was garbage, and focussing manually was annoying with the small focus ring. I honestly prefer my helios 44-2
Helios's have horribly quality differences, I have around twelve of them and they are all different and reach both ends of the spectrum, from shockingly bad, to astounding good.
