Tuning Files- What Do You Use?

Hey guys,

I've been doing my own wax for a few years now and really want to get into doing m own edge work. I've used a gummy stone and detuned underfoot before but I want to move on to a full edge sharpening. I have the correct guides and I know what angles to use, my only hurdle- what kind of file to use. I've seen the Swix files that cost $100 and I really don't feel like paying that much for a ski file. What do you guys use to do your edges?

I would say to get your bases ground and structured at a good shop. Have them set your base and edge bevel and you can maintain with diamond stones.

First investment set of stones, before file for sure.

When I and most other people start using files, this is especially apparent in teenage racers, it becomes way too easy to take off more material than you should. Then the edge is thin and the ski can't be ground anymore.

just a heads up, I killed the life of a good pair of skis from over-tuning and I will never forgive myself.
Also I had to shot my dog cause he got rabies, but the skis were worse.
