Biggest tells on level/type of skier?

Inspired by WankerTanker's recent thread

What aspects of a skier's outerwear or gear do you think are the biggest tells on how good they are or what type of skier they are (park/all mountain)?

A few for me (just correlations, not hard rules obviously)

1) goggles under helmet = Either park skier (good or bad) or good all mountain skier
2) center mounted skis= park skier (kinda obvious)
3) Longer park skis = good skier

What do you guys look for?

if when they wave hi to you and they're wearing gloves and the pinky is bent a little down more than the ring finger it means they probably could do a left cork 9 but only a 7 to the right (or unnatural side). however if the ring finger is longer than the index finger then it means that they probably only know how to ski rails and couldn't put together a proper turn because the carving gland is located in the index finger and may be undeveloped. and if they swivel their wrist to wave instead of shaking their hand back and forth it's a telltale sign that they might need help getting on and off the chairlift and doing simple life activities such as brushing their teeth or tying their shoes. these are just some things i've observed over the years

You can usually tell by their stance while standing in line. Standing tall yet relaxed without having your skis fly around the lift line usually says, "hey i know how to use these two planks"

For park skiers, how well they straight line to the park. If they boost off of nothing doing shiftys and 3's at Mach chicken they tend to be good

why judge by superficial things?

it says a lot when people can ski out of the park too...

Can they make it through the bumps like a boss?
Can you see their edging on steep runs?
and.. the timeless ski boot on stairs scenario... (but stiff charging boots are harder on the stairs than noodle/ upright park ones)

I don't even ski park. so no. it says you know how to control your skis. if you know how to control your skis, you're a good skier.

At my hill if you have ANYTHING but the ol' Target snowpants—Colmbia jacket matchup and maybe a fanny pack, I assume you're alright.

Snowboarders excluded.
As are the multitude of Spider-wearing foreigners.

Hitting a jump line switch when it is super fast and very little transition between features. Pretty amazing watching pros do that shit, they control their speed literally up to the second they pop.

OP I think I get what you're saying.

Sometimes you're just standing in the lift line and you glance over and holy shit there is a dude 2 lines away who looks SUPER legit. You ask your buddy "who is that?" "what the hell skis is he riding?" "Really? 2015 CoreUpts??"

And then you get to the top of the lift, and you're dying to watch this super pro murder it down the mountain, but instead he just goes and skis off the side of a rail kicker and skips the next six features.

Those fuckin guys get me all the time.

Why people need to go inside to put on boots is beyond me. It literally takes a minute to put them on. I can pull in to the lot, and be ready to ski in under 5.

I only go inside if it's colder than -15 at that point my feet will be cold going in and they will stay cold all day.

Never judge a book by its cover, but if you have to,
1. Goggles under helmet started in the park. Not a tell, whats is tho is how big the gap is between your goggles and helment. If your forehead shows most likley youre a gapper.
2. How they carry themselves in an overcrowded and icey lift line .
3. How and when they use a gopro. If its cloudy, flat light and its your first day of the season with no fresh its more like go ducshe.
4. Torn and ripped pant cuffs mean the rider cares more about clean corks then clean jeans.
5. Facial hair coated in snow not your backside. Face shots vs. Yardsales
6. They share their weed n beer
7. Can ski moguls on 210s
8. Got the hottest ski bunny in the parking lot

The only way to tell if someone shreds is if they go down stairs by facing up the stairs, and sliding down backwards in their skiboots without flinching.

When you wear a girly one piece.  That's when you don't give a shit what anyone thinks.  You wear stuff because it works for you.  Then if you can lay it down like Ligety, you can wear what ever the hell you want to.
