Who here gets awful grades in school?

anyone here with a good success story besides having horrible grades? I bet there's a lot, just because you don't have the attention span or drive to do well in school cause you want to be doing other stuff, doesn't mean you're going to fail at life at all.

I was always well-below average student all through grade school, mostly C's. I don't remember that was a long time ago. And in college I definitely failed a few classes, still got a few D's, many C's, some B's, very rare A here and there. It didn't take me long to get a good job, and I've turned down 3 in the last 6 months.

One of my old bosses even said himself he prefers more like 2.0GPA students. People with good GPA's all too often expect their smarts to just open doors for them, and can't handle adversity

I think where people go wrong is of all those who spend their whole life secluded in their room or at the library studying are missing out on valuable social skills which ARE important. When you go into an interview, they will ask you questions about your work, awards/achievements maybe, but a huge part of the process is deciphering your character. If they think you are a dull, wet rag that wont fit in the company, you wont get hired no matter what GPA or awards/achievements.

I mean, it's not hard to get decent grades. I found that even in college classes it's nearly impossible to not get a C as long as you show up to class. Getting bad grades is almost always because the student was being lazy, not that the class was that hard.

I can tell by your inability to write more than one coherent sentence in a row that you didn't do well in school, or just aren't very smart.

That said, I don't have the drive to do well in school and have never gotten below a C in my life. I'd have to try pretty hard to do worse than that. I find it impressive that kids somehow manage to get D's, just because I have no idea how they can do so poorly.

The problem with these "crappy grade success stories" is that they're the exception, not the rule in today's society. Generally in today's world, you DO have to work hard in school to do well because if you slack off in school you won't learn the right habits to do work in your career. If you don't try in school, you won't learn the right habits to get work done. I get good grades, but I'm a huge procrastinator when it comes to schoolwork, and that's a habit I'm trying to break myself of because I know that shit isn't gonna fly when I have a boss instead of a teacher.

That would be extremely difficult if you had to pay for your own college and wanted to get 30+ days of skiing in on top of that. Glad your mommy spoils you though.

before i got my concussion sophmore year of HS, i held some pretty good grades. had like B's and A's mostly. Then I got hurt and missed like 2 months of school which absolutely fucked me over. spent pretty much all of my junior year in like freshmen/sophmore core curriculum classes which fucking sucked, but it was pretty easy. still trying to make up a few credits with some independent study shit for math and government. a bit of a challenge but its all good.

Went from a 79 average sophomore year to a 94 average junior year. The only real difference I see in my habits is more studying for tests. I need money for college so hopefully this will get me something. Success in life is based off of motivation and drive, grades just help.

For me I disagree, I work my ass off at work but in school do the bare minimum and procrastinate. There's a huge line between liking what you're doing and doing something because you have to. I live my work so working hard comes easy but school is a struggle for me and I can't see positives so I blow it off.

I just scraped by in high school, Had a teacher tell my mother at parent teacher interviews that I would be digging ditches for the rest of my life. Was 75% in college, partied all the time. Never had a problem income/career wise. In fact if you measure success by income the majority of successful people from my high school are in the 50% to 70% group. However my college graduating class seen more of the middle group get better jobs.

For the most part, doing bad in school ensures a harder time later on in life. There are the people like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs who are successes. But they're so statistically rare, they don't even amount to blips on the radar.

Moral of the Story is: Stay in school, get good grades, work your ass off and have fun. College does set you up for success later in life. Join a Fraternity, play intramurals; do stuff that will make connections for you when you graduate. Get the best grades you can. Network your ass off, learn how to be a gentleman and socialize and trust me it will pay off way before you graduate.

Failed my Progressive Electronic Rhetoric class this year. Showed up to every day but one and did almost all assignments. Even befriended the professor and it still didn't help me. For whatever reason, I just could not comprehend what was being taught to me.. shit sucks.

But on a side note, I've always had to work pretty hard to get good grades unless it had to do with writing. This class was a pretty big shock to me, it was almost more science than english.

yeah, difficult if you spend most of your 'homework time' on facebook and newschoolers... i easily skied 50 days a season, and graduated in 4 years. paying for college has nothing to do with it, get a loan like most college students do.

I suck at writing exams. I seriously mess up the easiest things on exams and if I make a mistake in algebra I can not find it.

I also never seem to manage my time well on finals. Like on my quantum mechanics exam last week, I kinda knew my shit, but I was being really careful with my math and going pretty slow. Looked up at the clock and had an hour left to write the second half of the test. Once I get into that panic mode, all of my reasoning goes out the window. I was doing the stupidest shit like time-evolving states that weren't eigenstates without breaking them up first, etc...

My GPA suffers from my bad exam scores. I have a GPA around a B. Thankfully I have some easy courses coming up so hopefully can bump it up to an A- before I graduate.

Youre not alone I got my report card last week and got straight C's in all 4 main classes. I have 0 drive for homework or to even care about what the teacher says. I also have ADHD and dose off a shit ton. Not gonna go to a good college for sure but I dont give a fuck how dumb people think I am.

Thats why you need to be well rounded. Good colleges are looking for kids that are both smart, and do tons of extra circulars. You won't get into a good college if you just have good social skills.

Cs and Ds get degrees. But seriously I'm in engineering so as long as I pass its usually enough, and my just barely sub par people skills will be a bonus :P

Well that's false. Most of the time in order to graduate with a major you need to keep a certain gpa. I know for mine I need to have at least 2.5 in both my major classes and overall

In college I was the "rarely shows up for class but breaks the curve" student.
My professors loved me because I wrote amazing research papers and was very active within the actual department. I just really hated lectures and would rarely do small assignments.

I think a lot of people just learn differently. I need hands on or to be really challenged for me to do well and stay interested.

Its hard to succeed if you don't put in the work to get into a good school/ get a good job.
Obviously there are exceptions but saying that the ones who do bad in school are the ones who succeed the most in life is just totally false.

That article is total bullshit, life experiences don't get you through life, so many successful people in my life tell me everything they have done to be successful, and those kids that don't have a social life because they are to busy doing work and studying are the more successful, and the kids that go up to professors in their off time to ask them a question they didn't understand and make sure they get a 4.0 every semester. I think that to be successful you don't need to be that kind of guy, but above-average.

You can't clump all professional careers into one.

I would say science/math related fields grades matter. #1 because grad school and #2 what you learn in class directly translates to future jobs.

Also you can be an incredibly socially awkward scientist and never really talk to people and still be successful.

I can see where your boss is coming from. I have no fucking time for people who complain at work and can't handle "pressure" when all you have to do is work harder than normal. If you feel sore at the end of the work day that's a good thing. I don't know maybe its just growing up in norther new england that makes me think that way.

I've been told by multiple medical school admissions directors and advisors that they are always hesitant to accept the 4.0 straight out of college student because that kid has no life or social skills/experience, and it is clear that they don't during their interview. The 3.4-3.8gpa student that has worked a couple relevant jobs, travelled a bit, volunteered, and can hold a conversation, is a much more attractive applicant.

Its true that grades don't mean everything. But don't credit your 2.0 gpa to learning "differently than all the other students" and expect to get a killer job either.

The most attractive applicant to jobs and grad school is the student that maintains a competitive gpa while showing with ECs and work experience that they are a well rounded, sociable, and interesting person.

Dear lord this. I swear every bad grade that I get can be directly attributed to a test where I started panicking due to a lack of time. Exactly what happened in my nanomed class last week. Still have held a 3.75 through 4 years of college but it definitely could have been higher if I could just calm my shit down. I really can't imagine that article is true though, especially considering that a large portion of new jobs require graduate school these days, good grades are required. I don't know how you could get into a decent grad school with shit grades, hell some of them have 3.5 minimums for applying. Now, its definitely essential that you have the social skills/life experiences to go along with it, but that really isn't all that hard to obtain in college

Decided to be a pro skier. Wasn't good. Good at getting sponsors.

Met Newschoolers guys. They thought I might be a good ad sales guy.

I sucked at everything except sports in high school.

However, in my last year i got my shit together and did pretty fucking awesome if i don't say so myself.

Went to college, left after 4 months for multiple reasons.

Went skiing.

That brings me to now. Ill let you guys know how it goes.
