Flycams for skiing

Hey m&a, so I just ordered my flycam nano which is my first stabalizer. I will be puting it on my t3i with tokina 11 16 and my rode videomic. I was wondering, can you guys find any edits where the flycam nano (not glidecam) is used well and it's actually smooth. I can't find any good ones. I wanna make sure that it will work for skiing and it's actually possible to get smooth shots with anything except a glidecam hahah.

My Flycam was a pain to get balanced, and never stayed balanced.

Accepted the loss, sold it, and moved on. I'll be getting a glide-cam in the future.

never had this problem with my glidecam. its just the first balance was hard, then on out it was basic.

It's a pain in the ass to get balanced but if you really dont have the money it still functions as a stabilizer like a glidecam, they're essentially the same type of stabilizer minus some small design changes.. As long as you dont have too heavy of a camera/mic/stuff the shots shouldn't look any different from if they were filmed with any other stabilizer (glidecam in this case), once they're both balanced correctly.
if you really want to see an edit with one. Wasn't really quite balanced, had the pole extended lower than normal because of the wind and stuff. Mainly just shaky because of me being bad at using it, obviously with more practice you can get way better looking shots

I thought the flycam performed really nicely in that edit. I would be thrilled to get results like that. Nice edit btw

You might just need to spend more time working on balancing the thing out and also practicing using it. Mine works perfectly, all it took was some time. Watch some videos and such to learn how to use it correctly

Honestly people say that it's a pain to get a glidecam balanced, but IMO with an HD series glidecam it took me maybe 10 minutes to set it up initially to tune it for a T3i w/ Tokina, but only takes about 30 seconds to set up from being taken apart including putting it together and tuning the micro adjustments. It takes me about 3 minutes to 5 minutes if I'm changing lenses.

I have a Glidecam hd 2000 and my advice is to just save up for a glidecam. They are higher quality and work far better. You will also save yourself time because the glidecam is easier to balance.

Glidecams are easy to get balanced, Flycams on the other hand suck.

My flycam is wicked easy once you get it balanced once, maybe a minute to put it together after that.

I have a fly cam with gh2 first day using it my friend shot this. mega cropped for the gram but shows how smooth. super easy to use and looks good

I mean, not to be a douchebag, of course, but I think you're underselling yourself. I had a DIY steadicam at one point that stabilized just that much.

OP, I'd say cut the chase and buy the glidecam, you won't regret it later.

Flycam nano dslr used in this edit right here! (yeah i know the skiing isn't amazing, but it's just for filming purposes). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr-N-jkNFtM Works great, no reason to spend the extra money on a glidecam. Just take the time to learn how to balance it properly and ski with it (snowboard in my case). Also, using warp stabilizer in post will also help smooth your shots.

I figured I am equally good, if not better than a nano flycam with simply a sturdy monopod and IS turned on.
I am talking on skis, obviously when walking you feel the steps.

Thanks! It just takes time to get used to. All stabilizers require a good amount of practice, doesn't matter how much money you spend (unless it's some thousand dollar body rig shit lol).
