Replying to Need some help/advice on a DIY winch
Ok, well first of all, the winch I want to build isn't exactly your stereotypical wake winch, but nonetheless I think the concept is full of potential and I already have most of what I need (I think) so it's relatively cost efficient. Sorry for the mini intro, but on that note, here we go.
I have an arctic cat 500 4x4 four wheeler, and I would like to somehow use one of my back wheels as the power-source of my winch. Here's a YouTube video that briefly displays the idea I'm talking about. www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0iYlOtXBSo. This is shown on a truck but I'm sure the process is roughly similar.
I'm confused on exactly how I would get the spool to connect to the rim of a four wheeler wheel. Or could I even just get a closed loop rope, deflate the tire to what I feel is necessary, and then wrap the rope around the tire? Kind of like a rope tow concept I guess. I don't know, whatever you guys think I could make work, I'm all ears. I'm not trying to shell out several hundred dollars or more on a winch when I could hopefully just use a power-source I already have.
Thanks, Jake.
