Separation of Church and State has nothing to do with REMOVNG religion, all it means is that the Gov't shall not FORCE Americans to follow any religion. Having a Cross is not forcing anyone to do anything. It's called respect and tolerance. I'm Catholic and DO NOT fine offense when a Menorah is standing next to a Nativity. It seems tolerance is only for select groups. And when did the Gov't become THEM against US?!?! WE are the Gov't - the people!

They still got that giant one on the side of 81. Do people really think spending stupid amounts of money on a cross is a great idea? People are really going to drive by see the cross and think, "they spent a lot of money on that, there must be something to this religion".


That said I don't get cases like these. I feel like some of this shit is just to make headlines. Who has time for some of these cases? The legal system is fucking strange some times.

you understand the term really well... There aren't any state churches or tax dollars going toward religious purposes. I'll give you that gay marriage argument, it really should be legal and isn't because of religion. But you think people should somehow cast off their religious beliefs like a jacket when they vote? Religion is a part of who people are and I know NS vehemently disagrees with religion but I just don't see it happening that people will vote against what they believe.

I completely agree with you. True separation of Church and State is a very hard thing to accomplish. And it will probably never happen. I just always laugh when pretty much anything is ruled on because of separation of Church and State because they make those rulings on some things, but ignore it on others. The government is frustrating, but we already knew that.

The constitution prohibits the government from establishing religion ie forcing a state religion like theocracies in the middle east. And it protects the free expression of religion (like this cross in the article).
Seperation of church and state is not featured in our founding documents in its modern interpretation. The founders idea of Seperation of church and state was preventing something like the church of England being imposed on us by government.

The constitution does more to protect the public demonstration and expression of religion then it does prevent it. Atheists can rub atheism in your face Christians can rub Christianity in your face and display it in public. In America you don't have any right to avoid religion from being promoted in public.

Taking down this cross goes against American values, is intolerant and wrong

I am an atheist but for god sake when did it become offensive to display religious symbols or promote it in public?

You'd be right except THOSE ARE CEMETERIES AND NOT MEMORIALS.

I don't see how this is surprising. It's a giant fucking cross that was built with taxpayer money in a public park. I don't see why you're all getting so upset over a piece of stone located in a park that you never would have seen anyways. I guess the stronger your religious beliefs are, the more urge you have to act like a little bitch.

It's just a bunch of people finding something to complain about. If you read the article, they sued the memorial service. The people complaining are just trying to make a quick buck, not actually change anything.

There may be a lot of Christians in this country, but we are a secular nation explicitly according to the law. You are not the only religious group in the US and many Americans belong to no religion at all and have no faith. The only way to respect everyone is to favor no one.
