shit analogy? cool... people aren't outraged the kid made a mistake... people are outraged about the shitty defence.... Most great lawyers charge a premium, if you pay for that then yeah, you can cheat the system. (coming from a law student, from Australia but the principle is pretty similar to the US system). There is no such thing as justice, there is only a legal system.

The fact that the institute they sent him to cost $500k makes me think there is money involved in many ways. That is financially the best decison for the state and the institution. Everything is a business.

do you really think each therapist has one patient?.. one on one therapy just means sessions are one on one. So how about you times whatever he pays a year by 7 or 8 people, then subtract the salary from that. I'd estimate a max of 80-90 grand per year each to pay for a top notch therapist.

A petition of a +1,000,000 signatures has been started to remove the judge from the bench and this case is stiring up quite a bit of drama in Texas politics as well as the attorney general is likely to make an appeal. I feel as though this isn't the end of the case. And hopefully this kid will serve life behind bars or at least a 25 year sentence

straight up manslaughter any possible way you look at it. people have been locked up for less.

to the people saying money isnt an issue and its not his fault if he can afford good lawyers. his whole defence is based on money. just because his parents didnt teach him good values, where were his teachers?

this is just affirming the rest of the worlds views that america is slowly becoming a joke of a country. most americans think that they were loved by every other country, but in reality more dislike them than the other way around.

Call me ignant, but how does him not knowing right from wrong have anything to do with the fact he killed 4 people? He did the crime, he should do the time. Just shows how some people are above the law. I'm sure that if Tyrese Biggums from Detroit did the same thing, he'd already be lynched.

I hate this faulty argument. No shit it won't bring them back, but our justice system is based on crime and punishment. If someone kills four people and is convicted and proven to be guilty of intoxicated manslaughter we should just give up and stop prosecuting because sending him to jail won't magically bring the victims back to life? What a crock of shit, it's not about bringing the victims back, it's about justice for their families and for society.

He is 16, prohibition will greatly improve his chances of being able to re enter society, the only thing jail time will do is fuck him over for his entire life. You may be fine leaving sentencing as it is, but personally i believe this type sentencing would be much more beneficial to society in the long run than simply put every who commits a crime into jail. I would rather see the first goal of sentencing to be rehabilitation rather than retribution. In some cases the best way to teach the person is to give them time in jail, however that isnt the case in this case

Yeah, 20 years would ruin his life and wouldn't be the best thing, but he could do with a few (1-2) years in jail. 2 years in prison is a HUGE punishment, even for this magnitude of a crime, and I definitely think he would learn his lesson. He can still go to therapy in jail and he can get therapy at that treatment center when he gets out. And being in juvy 'til he's 18 will NOT ruin his life.

You say that in some cases the best thing to do is to send someone to jail to teach them their lesson, but not in this case. I think it is best in this case. He's being let off with a warning, which affirms his belief that he's invincible. He isn't being punished, so he STILL hasn't been taught right from wrong... This is just a shame for everyone involved. Regardless of what anyone thinks, this shit is blowing up and these parents better be prepared to be hit with a massive civil suit, because I've heard that's what's coming...

Throwing him in jail is going to do him a lot more good than talking about his 'problems' with a psychiatrist. This kid needs some hard loving and by hard loving I mean being tag teamed by two ex cons in the showers at 8 oclock on a Wednesday morning.

But on the other hand it's kind of good that he's not going to jail. I'm sure some people will be pretty pissed about this incident - I foresee a high possibility of getting shit kicked while walking down the street on any given day of the week.

Firstly if they are still in jail they wouldn't be ex cons, just regular cons.

More importantly what if it was one of your friends(or even you) who committed this crime, would getting raped for 20 years still be a fair punishment? he was kid who fucked up bad, but sending him to prison wont help the situation. If he is a normal human knowing that he killed 4 people will be enough of punishment, if he isnt normal and doesnt understand what he did then therapy is by far the best option and if cant get his act together then he goes to prison

How is that suddenly a defense? Some kids parents don't teach them shit and they're out on the street slinging drugs from a young age. They get put in jail for a little stash and a few bucks but this kid kills 4 people and get's off because his parents didn't teach him right from wrong?


Just proves how much it's worthwile to spend a stupid amount of money on legal defense. Good luck getting off like that with a public defender.

for a comparable case, look no further than donte stallworth. killed one pedestrian while drunk and ended up quite a few months in jail. and he also didnt have a shabby defender either.

and comon guys, all this "resocializing" shit, you gotta be kidding me. at some point its just over. i couldnt care less if someone like that is locked up for 10 years or more.

he basically proved that he is not a functional member of the society, so either put him into that rich crazy peoples place for 20 years or dont even start with that shit.

It wasn't like he was just driving recklessly and crashed. Being drunk/faded, driving recklessly and then killing multiple people.

His parents didn't teach him right from wrong and it looks like the justice system didn't either.

yeah id agree, maybe a less harsh sentence than the average adult would get. But he was still drunk, this wasn't some freak accident, it was his fault completely, and he should at least do 5-10 years.

Lol at the judge's logic.

If it was one of my friends or family I wouldn't feel sorry for them, they would have brought it on themselves and should be punished accordingly.

Also I don't care how much money you have or how bad your parents are, everyone knows drinking and driving is illegal. You say sending him to jail will ruin his life, but he ruined the lives of 4 entire families and many friends. Kid deserves to get a cms from bubba while being double teamed after every meal. It's absolutely fucked how you can sit here and defend this piece of shit

if one of your friends was drunk driving and hit a car on the side of the road and you didnt feel sorry for them at all then you are a little self righteous hypocritical shit head. You clearly lack all empathy for other humans beings if you dont feel sorry for someone who is heading to jail for 20 years because of a mistake that made when they were 16 and drunk. Its fucked that you are saying he deserves to be raped fucking raped, and then have the audacity to call me messed up for defending him!

Im not trying to defend him at all rather defending the sentence he was given. Personally i think we have evolved past the hammurabi code and our single goal of sentencing shouldn't just be to make the person pay, rather as civilized humans rehabilitation can also be one of are goals. 10 years prohibition doesnt just mean he gets to leave the court house and never have to worry about this again, the first 2 years(might be 1) are going to be spent at that therapy centre with zero contact with his parents. I doubt the therapy centre is going to be some expensive excuse for a hotel either despite what the media trys to portray because if it didnt had a proven track record and provided reasons for the judge to believe it is ideal for his rehabilitation he would of been sent to a different centre. Those two years working with a therapists will do far more for his rehabilitation then a life time in prison and if it doesnt work and he fucks up again then he will be going to jail.

Have you noticed how the drunk almost never dies? It's because they're so out of it, they don't see the crash coming, so all of their muscles are relaxed. Unlike the sober driver and passengers who see the oncoming crash and are bracing for their unfair deaths. This isn't fair at all, the law-abiding citizens paid the ULTIMATE price, so why is jail unjust for a drunk driver who made the conscious decision to get behind the wheel while inebriated and endanger others lives?

Selfish bastards, they can rot in jail for all I care. Don't call me insensitive either, I'm sensitive towards people whose lives are taken by shitheads who operate a two-ton piece of metal traveling at high speeds while drunk. You're basically saying, "Fuck you society, I've got places to be and if you get in the way, too fucking bad for you. Me getting home tonight instead of staying somewhere or finding a DD is more important than your life."

He was obviously making a joke with the rape thing, you're reading way too much into it.

There shouldn't be consequences for your actions right? If someone burns down your house locking them up won't replace your house and all the stuff you lost. If somebody kills your dog with a tire iron, locking them up won't bring your dog back.

I mean whats done is done. They should just shake his hand and say I forgive you. I wanted to be mad but that won't bring them back so here's my number and maybe we can go grab a drink sometime. I'll drive this time since you don't drive so well when you're drunk.

Driving drunk is not a mistake, it's something fucking morons do. If one of my friends drove drunk and killed someone why should I feel sorry for them? They took another persons life, that is FUCKED UP. You're making it sound like he drove on accident and it wasn't his fault. It was 100% his fucking fault. He was what going over double the speed limit or close to it? He wasn't even trying to be careful about it. Letting him off easy will just make him think he can get away with whatever he wants, along with make spoiled little fucks all over the country think they can get away with it too.

Also Hammurabi? LOL. Sending him to jail is not "an eye for an eye". That would be sentencing him to death.

I wouldn't mind this punishment either. I dont care how fucking rich or affluenzic you are. Everybody knows that driving double the speed limit while all hopped up on Valium and booze is not a good idea.

He ended 4 people's lives and no amount of money can change that fact. Actions have consequences and I feel like karma will catch up to this kid in some way. I'll laugh when he gets ran over by a drunk driver.
