Why does every pro skier need to organize their own invitational ?
B&E invitational
Sammy C invitational
Sean Jordan invitational
Simon Dumont invitational
Jon Olsson invitational

Does every *real* pro has his own invitational ?

Well I mean the idea is to run an event however you see fit, and then invite the people that you think would be fitting within the context of your dream event.

So I certainly hope to see more.

people sometimes make comments like this as if it's an ego thing, which i suppose it could be in some cases, but it's def not the primary motivator that i would project onto these dudes

theyre some of the few people with the cache to run an event how they see fit, and every one i can think of has been loved by the other skiers and the community, so it's dope IMO

i am not pro and most certainly never will be. but. i'm still planning on hosting my own invitational this summer at the gap that I named after myself since I guiney'd it back in 2012

No. It's not. You can't just sign to compete JOI but you can sign up and compete for the Dumont cup.

when i'm crazy rich i promise to fund the hood crew invitational... nothing but burly rails and sketchy gaps with shitty out runs, and the judges are at least half in the bag

Well a lot of them have amateur prelims which allow good skiers who might not be able to get any exposure any other way a chance to show what they got, so if you ask me I think they are great. Plus the dumont cup in Maine, and sean jordan's thing in Pennsylvania give east coast kids a chance to watch some top notch skiing!

Well considering he's the biggest skier to come out of a small mountain (Big Boulder), yeah

Perfect North in Indiana has the Rich Fahey rail jam. It seems that the smaller and less renowned the resort is that they are more likely to have an event dedicated to a skier that isn't necessarily a super pro.

Could be debated. Jon Brogan came from Jersey/PA too. A lot of skiers start at small mountains and gain lower levels of exposure there, and then move out West and explode.

Events are hard, budget is tight, sponsors are broke.

I won't share my vision of a course, because I'm saving it for something special one day.

What I can tell you is that the rules would be:

-Jam format (2 or so hours for actual contest)
-Winner is judged on variety of tricks
-Rotations on the jump portion are capped at 7. 9 or more and you're not only DQ'd but removed from the hill.

Three feature set.

Just because Delorme and Candide's edits are the talk of the town do you envision those spin limits including butter ins or outs?

And YEA -- THIS SHOULD HAPPEN.... someday.... imagine a newschoolers park invitational or a freeride invitational....

I started my own invitational at my hill which wasn't properly recognized. I just invited kids aged 12 and under and myself so that I could win.

BIG difference most of the invitationals are PROS inviting others PROS, or preety much realli good am coming pro ...... sean jordan invitational is for EVERYONE , it doesnt matter your ski skills ...... so helping kids in the industry more than just watching pros riding ..... BIG UPS TO SEAN for helping and supporting the sport , big ups to the brands that support this.

I think we all need to see a Big Air Dave Invitational. No spins/flips/grabs allowed, you must be on race skis, and take everything past the flats. Biggest hit wins.

Invitationals are the best. Run by the riders, for the riders. Not crazy competitive and usually more viewer friendly.

Come to think of it I think more progression in the last 5 years has come out of invitationals than established competitions like X-Games and drew tour.

well seeing as Seany J's is an open event for anyone who wants to go out and compete, compared to an invitational where its that pro and his group of friends. ya I would say that its not the same.

The buckhorn donkeys are doing the Donkey Invite (DI) in grizzly gulch this year. It'll be a triple BC booter line. Pabst Blue Ribbon will be sponsoring the event.

Move it ahead to May and I'll be there. I can help judge but I will not want to contend with the camps and pay too rich ticket/pass prices in July.
