so i soft bricked my gs3 after the 4.3 OTA update. just found out theres no possible fix yet since the update is new and samsung put some stupid security crap in it. does anyone know if best buy will JTAG my phone?
Rule of thumb at least in the rooting community is never NEVER take an OTA. That said if you are stock you should contact your carrier/Samsung and see if they can send you a new one or something because updates aren't suppose to break your phone.
Sorry i don't know that much about Samsung or i could try and help more, best buy probably won't be able to JTAG it but it might be worth a shot...
Try seeing if samsung or your carrier will warranty it and give you a new phone. Just don't tell them it was rooted in any sort of way. My brother did this and he got a brand new one. You can find guys on the internet with a JTAG machine though if that doesn't work.
but really, Google it, it entails taking 3 300kohm resistors and solder them onto a usb cord (google the pin out cause I don't remember)
Plug that bad boy in and it will boot into download mode after a few seconds then re flash a new ROM
YES WHY THE FUCK DID YOU ACCEPT AN OTA? But if you didnt root and you didnt have a custom recovery and just the pure update bricked your phone, bring it in to a Verizon/AT&T/T-Moblie store and be an asswipe and youll get a new phone.
Now if you DID root and you do have a custom recovery, even with a new security update you might be ok. Can you get it to fastboot? Its known in the Samsung world as "Odin mode"
Vol up / home button / power button.
(Or vol down, don't remember. Both do something)
