Dorm room speakers

I'm looking at getting some speakers for my dorm. I don't want just small computer speakers, but I'm not trying to rattle the building apart either. I don't really know where to start doing research, but I'd like to keep it below $500. NS have any suggestions?

whatever you do, make sure you turn your speakers out your window and do the campus community a service by giving them some sweet Sammy Adams to listen to while they go about their business

get a receiver, sub and a few speakers. thats what ive been running for probably like 4 years and it works fine. plus the receiver was less than 150 at best buy, the satellite speakers and the sub was like 150, and i had some extra floor speakers at my house. works perfectly for me

In a dorm you wont need anything more then these awesome speakers. Theyre more then enough

I spent 50$ on mine and they havent disappointed me at all. 500 dollars will buy you a system that will shake your floor and the floors above/below you, no getting around it. If you want to annoy your neighbors and have a sick system thats fine, but its overkill.

Better yet, get a nice pair of wireless headphones so you don't piss off everybody around you and just get a $50 set of external speakers.

A kid on my floor has those and they're legit.


That's my set-up, the bluetooth is super-convenient, it fits on top of my dresser no problem, it gets plenty loud for a dorm room (I usually keep it between 1/2 and 3/4 volume), and the sound quality is pretty good.

i happen to have had the same dilemma going into this year of college where i wanted good ass speakers for 500

i would totally recommend the M-Audio bx8 d2. long story short they are great because they are studio monitors, which are very clear if you place them correctly, but when i got mine i found they work phenomenally as just regular speakers too.

for 500 you could get these and the 1/4 inch cables to go with it in sure. i would recommend them because they are built for clarity and durability. its well worth it to spend a lot of good speakers trust me. and with 2 8 inch cones, the base is very good and accurate.

I found this whole set on craigslist for $100 and they sound goooood. Get way louder than I really need and the sub hits when I want it to. The little volume adjuster knob it comes with is pretty cool too haha. Just see what craigslist has to offer.

I have my 5.1 surround sound system I brought from home. Lived next my RA and above the RD my freshman year. They didn't like it at all but it was so sick.

good enough, accurate, not too boomy.

though i don't listen to any electronic, dubstep, or top 40 style rap. i also don't blast the bass to the moon like most people. i've always had the sub level set below the "suggested" level. for reggae or some 90's hip hop, you can turn it up pretty damn high just fine w/o drowning out the mids and highs. the adjustable sub level on the speaker is prime.

I had SoundSticks 2s in the dorms. They didn't take up much room and sounded great playing music or watching movies, only like $200. Harmon/Kardon has bluetooth+wireless ones now too.
