So after poring lots of money into the ski season. On my eighth time out this year I broke my collar bone in two places. The doctor says surgery cant be done on it. He also said I will be out for atleast 12 weeks which is basically my whole ski season..i cant even explain how mad i am right now. Have any of you ever had a break in your collarbone? If so do you have any advice? also would it be a good idea to just go out and ski before the docs gives me the clear?
It really depends. The consequences of breaking your collarbone can range from being back on skis after 3 weeks (what I did) to 3 or 4 months. My advice would be to know your abilities skiing and if you're able to actually take it easy skiing before it's fully healed. Pretty much if you can ski without it hurting, you're safe to ski. And only time will tell how soon that will be.
I broke mine in the middle of last season, don't try to push it because my recovery was supposed to take 5 weeks and it ended up taking almost three months. Try not to move it, and even if it's an option not to, get the surgery because you'll heal up faster and it will set in the right place
Not necessarily true, your doctor would have the best say there. And it not setting in the right place really doesn't matter unless it's really fucked up, but in that case surgery would be required. Mine still sticks out a good inch but it's even stronger now than it was before I broke it. The only thing bad about it really is that it looks awkward. Well, that and sometimes my chin hits it when I turn my head haha.
Broke mine a while ago, then rebroke it like a month later and didn't know till I had follow up xrays. Let that shit heal up. Mine still aches really bad when a storm is incoming
