Rail help..

Okay so I found these 1.5" 16' rails at a construction place in my city for a pretty good price so I picked tem up. The only problem with them is there is paint on them that's chipping, does anyone know what resorts put on rails to help you slide on them? I'll post some pictures of the setup once I finish welding them... Also any suggestions on how high it should be off the groud? I was thinking 1.5 feet?

im pretty sure they just grind em down and put expensive fucking paint on them

1.5 feet is pretty low. once they're set in snow they'll barely be above the surface. and you'll have to keep digging it out when it snows.

for paint I'd grind it down so it's nice and shiny and spray on a thin layer of tremclad. I wouldn't invest in too much paint since it'll just be scraped off the top anyways. so just coat it so the rest doesn't rust. maybe spray another layer on before storing it for the summer.
