So, it's kind of crazy to me the company that made the first twin tip has kind of bowed out. I mean, I'd rather there be more market share for the little guys, but just realized it I guess. Also, whoever took over their graphic department should be killed.
How exactly have they "bowed out?" Just because they recognize that there is more to freeskiing than the park doesn't mean that they aren't park of the freeski scene anymore
Repost upon repost. They are expanding into a new market. Any smart business person would realize the BC is a new (yet dangerous) market and has potential for large profits if done correctly.
This. There isn't too much innovation to be had in the business aspect of the park scene. It's mostly just little tweaks but just about all the gear is there. All that it needs is proper marketing(Bobby brown). Backcountry however still has tons of room to grow. They're coming out with new prototypes for gear every year. It makes sense to me to follow the money.
I don't mind where they're going. Like in the above posts their SFTV episodes are awesome. They're just putting more effort into the backcountry/freeriding part of freeskiing.
They probably realize it's in their best interest to get on top fast since most people will only buy a single touring setup find out how rewarding it really isn't then head back to the lifts.
I have some new Salomon QMax130 boots and they are madd sick, but I find it interesting that they dont make a top notch park boot too. Probably because all anyone wants is a pair of full tilts. Seems like tons of skiers use their bindings too.
Little park children like OP are fucking stains on the freeski community. Just because they're not focusing on making jib skis doesn't mean they "don't give a fuck about the freeski scene."
I mean, not to make a huge deal about it all, but Dumont left Salomon for a reason so I'd have to agree that they are stepping out of the spotlight of free skiing, but they certainly are still giving fucks about it.
Not really. If you look at the careers of profesional park skiers over the past 16 years, you will see that for the most part the ones that could got into big mountain, but I dont think there is a single pro to ever start their career as a big mountain skier and then move to the park. Big mountain is just the ultimate form of freeskiing. That doesn't mean theres anything wrong with anything else, Big mountain is just on a whole other level.
On REAL snow on REAL mountains? I agree that its more fun but not everyone who skis has access to that.
And to the guy who said guardians were "groundbreaking", i fail see how. They're a good binding and I'd snag a pair if i had the money but they aren't really that inventive.
I'm not even hating on big mountain, I think it's amazing and for some people it is the biggest rush but calling it the ultimate form of freeskiing is bullshit, sory. Freeskiing is about doing whatever the fuck you want on your skis, be it on an ex-trash heap in the midwest or a gnarly face in the himalayas.
Saying one thing is the ultimate 'best' or 'purest form' is the antithesis of free(dom).
Funny you say this, because the touring market is the most rapidly expanding facet of the ski industry right now. I'm not surprised that Solomon, K2, and Surface are most of their stock in that basket, to the chagrin of some in the freestyle niche...
seriously being a true free skier is being able to utilize all that is available to you. my roommate is totally ignorant to the park scene, mostly cause he's a big pussy, and gets his kicks early season lapping groomers first chair. that's cool n all, but i have way more respect for someone who calls themselves a good skier who is able to ski everything and anything.
whoever makes the salomon webisode series has the dream job and rightfully so cause they are sooo incredibly well done. major props to salomon for that.
what really angered me the other day was I went to their website and was unable to find a team page for their freeski team like what the fuck I may have not looked hard enough, but what company doesn't put their team out there?
