Goggles Fogging.

I know this has probably been talked about before but I did a search and didn't find anything. I was in Winter Park this week and on the 3rd day it got down to well below zero with strong winds and a ton of snow coming down. My goggles kept fogging and freezing and I couldn't take them off so I was basically skiing blind which nearly ruined a really good powder day. I've never really had this problem before. Do I need new goggles or what?

The biggest problem is once you've fogged 'em out you're fucked. If you wipe the inside of your lens you do more harm than good. You need to air this shit out to stop the fogging disaster.

Usually fog happens when you're sweating hard. Air moving through stops it, but if you're hiking, sitting in a liftline or anything else where you're sweating buckets they can fog out.

Old digger trick from my glacier days is to pop out a very small part of the top of your lens. Most goggles have removable lenses, and if you just make a crack at the top while you're sweating your bag off then you'll have maximum ventilation and zero fog.

GoPro sells anti-fog inserts. For $15 you can get 12 antifog inserts reusable up to 4 times (48 days of skiing without fog. Never tried them but i know that gopros can fog up worse than goggles sometimes. I'm on an iPad so I can't link but here's the raw link http://gopro.com/camera-accessories/hero3-anti-fog-inserts

happens to me when I am working hard in pow. do not wipe the inside otherwise you will wipe off the anti fog and a haze will form that will be there for good.

best thing to do dry them out when you are at this point.

to prevent it is not wear them while hiking or standing still. I know you cannot always do that, so you gotta keep the airflow going through the gogs and keep moving.

It just sometimes happens so, i will carry an extra pair...

The only time my goggles fog up is when my neckwarmer  is over my nose and right up to the bottom of my goggles.

When they start to fog up I just pull my neckwarmer down a little bit and that usually works just fine.

I have a pretty old version of the Oakley O-Frames (I don't think they are very up-to-date, talking antifog), but mostly they only fog while having my facemask covering my nose.
Sometimes it happens that they fog, if I am pulling them up so they are placed on my forehead. I guess that this is due to my well-heated head, as I ride with a beanie under my helmet.

So, if the problems are similar to mine, simply just pull your facemask down or don't put the goggles on your forehead.

A ton of things could have gone wrong, but as it was your third day in a row imma guess they started out the day with some moisture in them. Try to dry your goggles out completely every night or you can run into problems.

exactly; when you have nice goggles. Never touch the inside. Even when packed with snow. let them dry out.

I usually always, carry a second pair in my backpack and if I crash hard, swap goggles, much easier than fumbling around with foggy or snow covered goggles.

yea this is a big one, leave your googles in your wet jacket overnight, and the fog might not clear up at all no matter how fast you ski or whatever. Gotta let em get dry.
