Physics projectile motion problem +k

Only did half a test today so I wrote down the problems but still can't do this shit for my life. Help a homie out! +k

An object is shot off a 15m high cliff going 20 m/s at 45 degrees. Find the final velocity in the Y direction.

Memorize these equations and then use whichever one fits the variables you have and need.

If you can't solve the problem with one equation then you'll have to use 2 of them. In this case you can usually solve for time in the y direction since its equal in both the x and y axes.

At 45 degrees that means the y component of the velocity is 10 m/s and the x component is 10 m/s. since your only looking at the y component just assume the projectile was shot at 10 m/s straight up. The max height of the projectile will be 20 meters because g will slow it down to 0 m/s after 1 second because g = 10m/s^2. So you can look at it as a projectile falling from 20 m. Use d=1/2at^2 to find the time it will be falling which is 20= 5t^2 , 4=t^2, t=2 seconds.
Then use v=at so v = 10m/s^2 x 2 s so v=-20 m/s in the y direction.

Forgot to say that the max ht will be 20 m because after 1 second going up at 10m/s, the projectile will have risen 5 m because its average speed when rising will be 5 m/s.

Sorry fucked that up i havent done this in a decade. Y comp of v is v sin 45 = 14.14

To avoid having to use the quadratic formula or a graphing calc, split up the problem. First find the max ht of the object by using v1 + at =0
So 14.14m/s - 10m/s^2 x t = 0 so t= 1.414
Max ht = 1/2v1t +initial ht. so max ht =1/2x 14.14m/s x 1.414 + 15 m = 25m
Now use d=1/2at^2
25m= 5t^2
5m=t^2
T= 2.24 (time it spends falling from its max ht)
Now use v = at. So v =2.24s x -10m/s^2 = -22.4m/s in the y direction

OK, so draw a right triangle with a 45 degree angle, and a hypotenuse of 20m/s. Then, both of the other sides will equal 10sqrt(2) or 14ish. Then just do the rest as iff the object is being thrown straight up at 14m/s.

The total air time is the time the object spends rising (1.414 s) + the time it spends falling (2.24 s)
=3.65 seconds.
So plugged in to the equation d = v1t + 1/2at^2
You get -15 (the net distance the object falls) = 14.14 x 3.65 + 5 x 3.65^2 which checks out

no you didn't. you took a bunch of unnecessary steps. the question asked for a final velocity and gave you an initial velocity and an initial height.

there are four equations. Kind of a waste of time to memorize them though. Just remember that v=dx/dt and a=dv/dt and you are golden.

Actually i didnt. If you wanted to do it in one line, you would need either a graphing calc or the quadratic formula. I showed how to do the problem without them. Youre pretty stupid man. Why dont you show us all how stupid you are by trying to solve the problem your way and fukn failing miserably?

no. you can literally plug the values into the kinematic equations provided above and get the answer immediately. No quadratic formula or graphing calculator necessary. If you take g=10 then you wouldn't even use a calculator.

Derive the equations of motion using Lagrangian mechanics, or you are a total joke. If you are going to waste time doing unneccesary stuff, at least do something that's cool.

initial y velocity = 20sin45
initial x velocity = 20cos45
a 9.8 m/s or 32.2 f/s
distance traveled is the height of the fall
