Why are our rooms not fully thawed out?

Aright, so walk over to your bed and stick your hand under your pillow.

Dont worry this isn't going to get weird.

Maybe a little.


So basically everyone maintains a room temp in their home, correct? If not, just leave because being cold is for the poor.
If everything in our rooms has been at room temperature for the last 3 months, why is it cold under the pillow?


I feel like this could be some illuminati shit, idk guys. Really freaking me out.

Me and my roommates are planning on making a room defroster. Basically make everything real nice and warm. Imagine toasty sheets before going to bed every night.

rn were thinking either a giant microwave component that will zap the rooms and make everything warm or some sort of device that can send blasts of heat through the home.

This is a classic misconception that a lot of people have, The underside of your pillow is the exact same temperature as the air in your house; it feels cooler because the molecules within the pillow are free to absorb energy at room temperature.

The molecules of the pillow then receive energy from your warm hand when you touch it, and the transfer of energy from your hand to the pillow is what your perceive as a colder temperature.

The tiles on your bathroom floor are the exact same way, they are the same temperature as the carpet in your bedroom, but the carpet has a lower specific heat so it can't take in as much energy as the tiles can. the tiles take energy from your feet and you perceive that they are much colder than the carpet.

If you heat the tiles to 98.6 degrees then they have just as much energy per unit as your feet and they will feel temperature neutral, or room temperature, because there is no energy exchange.

i know why my room is always cold... shitty seals on the window. i had ice on the inside of my window this morning and was just able to reopen it because ice filled in the track that it slides on and froze it shut all day.

ill take your slightly below normal temperature room...

OP would get along well with the demonoid bitch that lives with me. You sleep better in the cold anyways and less breeding for germs and a bacteria. As far as I can see; hot rooms are for poor people, not cold rooms.

Yup. A breeze that is cooler than your body temperature will absorb heat from your body as it blows by. The faster the breeze, the more air molecules that can collide with you and absorb heat and the colder you feel.

It's all apart of a very large field in science known as heat transfer.

Breezes cool us down by convection; the physical process of carrying heat away away from our radiating bodies.



Also, toasted sheets would suck, you would start sweating so fast if you had a blanket on, and if you didn't have a blanket on, you would wake up in the middle of the night freezing your ass off.

A device for heating up your sheets has been abound since at least the 1600s. It was in Pirates of the Caribbean. But seriously my grandmother had one and they are magical .

I remember reading a thread on it on reddit. Was pretty interesting. Im familiar with convection just never really stopped to think that's how breezes were really not any difference in temperature but made us feel colder by taking away heat, instead of just saying "Oh that cold breeze is nice".

This. You have to remember that "cold" isn't a thing that exists in physics but heat is, so feeling cold is actually just a negative flow of heat from your body.

and furthermore that we dont feel the temperature of anything, rather our nerve endings pick up the temp change in our skin from contact with temperature change

Have you ever had a 35-40℃ night? No? We get them regurlarly here in summer. You don't want to heat your room. It is near impossible to sleep when you're sweating that much, even when you're under no blankets. It's fucked.
