The Sneak - +++K for Critique !

So in a nutshell, I moved to CO 7 months ago and decided I wanted to just start using my GoPro a bunch and filming anything and everything. Lately I've been getting more footage than not, and decided to make a short edit of the shots I've been getting. Its not all skiing, but it shows what I've been filming. In about 6 months and a ton more footage, I'm making, I hope, a 10 minute collage of what Colorado living is like through my eyes. This short edit right here is just a small amount of what I've been doing.

I have been making edits ever since I was like 11 with our Razor scooters and plastic kick-offs...lol. But I'm still doin it and still lovin it. I believe I have gotten way better..I hope at least. Anyway y'all should totally give me advice, tell me what you liked about it or didnt like about it, and anything else :)

I suggest getting some sort of Grip/Handle for the camera so there is less shake. Either than than I liked it, keep it up!

I mean... I guess it was okay...

But the editing was really weird. IMO the constant color changes (color -> black and white -> purple hues) just looks so amateur and inconsistent.

Most of all there was, like, seriously nothing of significance in that video. You don't make videos of nothing even if you say "More to come soon". I think that you can definitely put something together if you have a lot of good clips and it will come out well enough because the editing isn't horrible, but this was just a bunch of random boring shots...

Just my two cents.

Yeah, the shots I have so far are more of just random things rather than just skiing. I guess it is odd but the editing isn't to bad to me. But thanks for the critique so far ! Good and bad helps a bunch :)

I feel like this type of response just negates a response to a critique. I know that you say "Thanks for the critique" and such, but it's totally not sincere. You can't ask for someone to comment on your stuff and then when you hear something you don't necessarily like, say "It's good in my eyes." While it's certainly important that you like what you make, getting stuck in the mindset that if it's good enough for you then it's good, period, is really naive. You really have to acknowledge and try to incorporate outside recommendations because it seriously helps a ton in making a better result.

MHA isnt't a production company. I have my own little business called Mountain High Alliance (MHA) and didnt start as a production company whatsoever. I initially made 2 different pins and in support of a few summit county/boulder producers that I back. Just thought since I pretty am MHA then I could stick that Productions at the end and call it an edit.

Yep, gavinrudy is right - if you ask for critique, be prepared to get genuine answers, and also consider whether the answers are actually something you should be thinking about. You might not like what people say, but honest critique is a very useful tool, no matter how much it hurts.

I'll add what I noticed:

positive:
• music was interesting
• riders & terrain have potential

negative:
• colour / b&w / purple is weird
• shaky footage
• no actual tricks or remotely interesting scenes
• that step at 0:17 is painful to watch
• no idea what MHA is, and no reason to expect better when the beginning consists of randoms

But I really do appreciate the critique. Don't get me wrong ! That's why I asked for it... Just maybe the way you like editing it is different than the way I like it. Not every person has the same style when it comes to filming/editing. For some reason I like the dark, erie, trippy feel my videos.

But all in all, I take in everything everyone says to me, so thank you !

Alright! And I don't mean to sound like a douchebag. There are just a good variety of people who randomly pop into M&A for critiques but counter all advice they're given.

there is no shame in using iMovie, but there is shame in using the iMovie titles… it screams "I used iMovie" which even though there is no shame in, if your audience knows it it shouts "AMMMMM"
