It's Almost 2014 and People Still Aren't Wearing Helmets

I love skiing and the fun times I have with my friends but one thing I always find so crazy is that people still aren't wearing helmets. I've seen people heal from broken legs, arms, and even a broken back, but the one thing you can't heal is your brain. So much of the focus of sports lately has been on protecting the head. Science has shown how bad brain injuries really are. You look at the Bengals player who had the brain of a 80 year old man, he died from simply bumping his head. Kids who look up to us out on the hill and see some people not wearing helmets is gonna make them feel like they don't need to wear one either. I get that some of you guys like "living on the edge" or whatever the hell you wanna call it, but I know everyone on this site loves skiing and wants to see it around for your kids and grandkids. Help set the example for everybody else out on the hill and wear a helmet.

Just last Friday I was getting nailed pretty hard. Luckily I'm everything but straight, otherwise I might have ended up in a wheelchair or something... But being the buttsex-liking-kind-of-guy I took those stones under the pow like a champ!

I'm from Nova Scotia and you are required by law to wear a helmet by law here. I wear a helmet 95% of the time, especially if I'm pushing myself to do crazy maneuvers and such, but it really sucks on occasions like retro day and shit when you have to wear a helmet. Everyone should have the choice, stop making threads about this please.

Not this fucking thread again. Look, everyone should wear a helmet, that's obvious. But if someone doesn't want to wear one, that's their choice. I wear one, but that's just my preference. People can do whatever they want.

All in my opinion,

Concussion awareness is more of a problem than wearing helmets. Helmets do a small amount to prevent a concussion, but their primary use is to protect against skull fractures. Just because you are wearing the latest and greatest helmet doesn't mean you won't get a concussion. Be smart - if you have any concussion symptoms stop skiing. Don't ski until 5 - 7 days have passed with no symptoms. If a second concussion is sustained while still recovering from a prior concussion, it could end your whole ski career.

I haven't read more then 2 words in this whole thread yet, just the title.

Just the title says it all.

Technology is crazy now and helmet safety is getting fuckin sick. I want to ski for the rest of my life, progressing with age and slaying like Rad Dad. I don't want my life to drastic change because some dumb ass joey runs into me some how at the resort or in the backcountry.

I mean kooks are everywhere. Statically I'd have higher chances getting hurt in the car going to or from my destination, but thats because more people drive then ski.

regardless I have a sweet video to share and might change some minds on the debate.

Some of my friends have been through some serious shit.

Some of those friends are also doing amazing things to help people who suffer life altering injuries
