Banned Super Bowl XLVIII Ad.

Have any of you guys heard about this? I'm just curious what the general consensus on NS is. Apparently, the NFL has banned this Super Bowl ad from this seasons game. Personally, I don't see whats wrong with the video. There's some guys response attached to the end of the video.

I am an ardent supporter of gun-control, I believe nothing good can come of giving out guns to everyone (blah, blah, safety issue, blah, blah), but this guy has a concise, respectable, spot-on argument for letting the commercial air. I am totally against guns, but this commercial should be allowed to air.

I'm indifferent with gun control. But I will say that when you go travelling, that would be a time where i'd want some form of protection, and you can't really travel with guns.

Sometimes to me, this whole issue of guns for personal protection seems like a solution for a problem that shouldn't be so large in the first place. Given that some people feel the need to strap a glock on their belt every morning because they don't feel safe seems to me as a testament to the security of a country or city. I would never consider carrying a weapon around with myself.

Not to mention, most the people I know that are into guns enough to be stoked on carrying them everywhere they go all seem to be the people i'd be least comfortable with having guns.

But yea, i'm indifferent. The problem isn't to do with guns. It's to do with stupid people, and I don't foresee a sterilization act coming into place anytime soon haha.

i think its because no one in the states accepts ownership for what happens as a result of gun violence and the network doesnt want to bear any responsibility.

if someone gets killed, everyone points the finger at the weapon, not the person. so not the family that produced the crazy kid, but daniel defense who put a gun in his hands. and then the nfl network or whoever airs this kind of commercial is automatically guilty by association and could catch some flak as a result.

so in order to protect themselves, they say fuck that shit. no gun advertisement on our network.

or something?

i dont know a thing about daniel defense, but i can see why the network would ban such a commercial. you dont want to give anybody a reason to point the finger in your general direction.

does my logic make sense? that's all that i can really come up with...

Colion Noir is the man. Always makes good, logical points in all his videos and is now a spokesperson for the NRA. Kind of bullshit that this commercial was banned but it does skate the line of the NFL's policy. However I do think more commercials like this need to be seen. People need to be aware that they are responsible for their/their families own safety.

I would guess Daniel Defense never planned to actually pony up the several million dollars that it would cost to run a Super Bowl ad. They knew it wouldn't pass muster, so they submitted it, had it rejected, and now are gaining from the publicity of saying "We're being repressed!".

Now I'd probably let it run if I were in charge of the network, but I doubt anyone on either side ever really expected it to.

from what i've read that company has plenty of money. i actually heard the ceo on the satellite radio into work today and it sounded like he was really trying to get this commercial aired. they even agreed to remove the firearm in the logo.

Great commercial, guy at the end is legit, this world is a fucked up place (just look at the girl who killed another girl over the alabama football lose, or the lady who killed three people for the last xbox, and I could go on for days). I will carry a concealed weapon for the rest of my life with my permit, I will have guns at my house for protection and enjoyment in hunting, I will obey all laws that come with those freedoms. But if you try to take that freedom away from me with your gun control bullshit you will never win.

Oh that's what it implies??? No your wrong, it implies that if someone try's to hurt him or his family on his private property he will defend them to the best of his ability, if he feels his life is in immediate danger and may be taken by another human being he has the right to stop that from happening.

I agree and I hope no one wants more of that, but it's a sick fucked up world so I know there are still people out there who kill for the hell of it. And I would never wish anyone into a situation where they are forced to use their weapons on another human being to protect themselves or their family, but gun control certainly is the answer.

They may very well may. But Daniel Defense has 23million in revenue (revenue, not profit), and Super Bowl ads this year are supposed to be running around 4 million dollars for 30 seconds (maybe a bit cheaper if you're willing to air late in the game). 

That would be one GIGANTIC risk for a company of that size to buy an ad that expensive. Now maybe they are making huge margins (or maybe the info I found on the internet is wrong), but it seems like an odd thing to go through with to me.

I think this is probably the reason they denied it. I mean really has anyone ever seen a gun ad on TV? And whoever was making the point about the finances of the company was right too, how could they possibly afford it? It almost seems like they made this commercial so it would get banned and then talked about...

I just can't believe we live in a world where people think they need assault rifles for self defense.

What if I am a millionaire and have a nice house, money on my premise, nice car, etc. Enough that a group would come to kill and steal my stuff, you think I could defend my house and family with a pistol that holds 9 rounds? And obviously that situation has very low odds of happening but why do you care what type of gun someone has as self defense. A pistol or shotgun kills just like an assault rifle so why does it matter?

Well daniel defense doesn't make assault rifles and assault rifles are illegal for the average person to own.

They sell assault rifles though don't they? Or what else am I seeing when I go to their webpage? Is a semi-automatic rifle not an assault rifle?

And I don't know, I just don't think it is prudent to worry about being robbed by seven gunman...I mean really? That just seems like living in fear. I mean honestly I cannot think of a single situation in my present day life where I would want to have a gun.

Like I said before it is very very hard for the average person to acquire and automatic weapon. I don't live in fear I just really enjoy shooting my AR15 and after recreational purposes it can serve as a potential self defense weapon.

Criminals don't give a shit about the law and will have guns anyway while law abiding citizens will not.

Also, the city with the strictest gun control laws in the country (chicago) also happens to have the highest rate of gun related crimes and shootings. weird how that works, aint it?

We probably are, but that doesn't mean bad things still can't happen. I really don't get why that's so hard for some people to understand. Cars are safer than they've ever been but people still seem to wear seat belts in case of an accident.

And quite the opposite of this. A police state would want every gun confiscated so they have complete control. I know most gun owners are completely against all this bullshit and have realized that they are responsible for their own protection.

You know what the easiest way to stop someone who has a gun from harming you? Having your own gun. Police aren't just going to appear at the scene to rescue you.

I'm assuming you're not even from the states so why don't you just stay in your gun hating country and I'll stay here.

I didn't say drunk driving and I have looked at the numbers more people die from alcohol "related" issues than gun issues. (Alcohol involved inssues include liver failure, drinking too much to cause death, drunk driving, and many other things)

I guess that counters shibbys point pretty well but its retarded to use when talking about gun violence. Making the distinction between violent acts committed by humans on other humans such as gun related murder or drunk driving and self harming acts like suicide and excessive alcohol consumption is important.

On an unrelated note, does anyone have any experience with any NFA items. Me and my dad want to get a suppressor or two but we don't really know the best way to go about it.
