Hi everyone I wanted to give a more in depth explanation on why I'm doing Tell A Friend Tour.
My over all goal is help strengthen the Roots of Freeskiing.
What is Freeskiing to me? Freeskiing is about is having fun, progressing yourself, and creating memorable experiences that make you want to keep skiing.
What are the Roots of freeskiing to me? I see the roots being local shops, resorts, and your everyday freeskier. The kid who got a part time job at a ski shop so he could be around skiing as much as possible. The dude who got a park crew job so he could ski while working, and make a sick park for everyone to enjoy. The local shop that hooks kids up with their first sponsorship. Those are the “roots” of skiing to me.
I also have some other goals that I hope will help grow freeskiing skiing. Here is a hypothetical story about Jack who came to my Okemo Tell A Friend Tour stop last year.
Jack happened to be skiing the park at Okemo when Ian Compton, and myself came in. We set up a mini rail jam/clinic on a flat box and Ian showed Jack how to front 270 out. Jack was pumped. Ian also old him about free pizza/raffle at Totem Pole Ski shop. Jack won something in the raffle, and had a great time. Later that night Jack went onto Youtube and watched some of Ian Comptons Weak edits. Now he can't wait to go ski and try some new tricks.
This isn't a far out story, and something that may have happened last year. Kids who didn't know about Ian, me or Tell A Friend Tour ended up being part of it. A few monumental things happened in this story that effects different parts of the ski industry.
1. Ski Companies:
- Jack now knows Ian Comptons sponsors (Nordica, Yoke, Colgate, ect..)
- Every time Jack watches an edit with Ian he associates him with his sponsors.
- Jack thinks Ian is cool so now his sponsors are cool.
- Because Ian rides Nordica Jack wants to ride them. He has become loyal to Nordica, and it was because of a memorable experience with a Nordica rider.
- If Jack likes the skis he will become the best type of costumer a company can have. A loyal repeat consumer.
2. Ski Resorts:
- Jack has always liked skiing but now he loves it. So instead of going once a week he now goes three times. He is now spending more money on tickets.
- Jack also spends more money at the cafeteria, and adds to the resorts food and beverage sales.
- Jack met some kids at TAFT and they are going to Killington next weekend. If Jack has a good time at Killington he will make the trip more often and help Killys economy.
- Jack has also been making posts on Instagram and Facebook about the resorts he skied at. This is boosting the resorts social media, and now Jacks cousins are aware of Killingtons park
3. Local shop:
- Jack went to the free pizza party, raffle, and is now aware of Totem Pole Ski shop.
- Ian told everyone the shop is cool for getting the pizza, and now Jack thinks the shop is cool.
- Jack is now buying his Nordica skis from that shop.
- He is now telling all his friends about the shop and they are going it to buy stuff.
- The shop now has an image of being cool so Jack come by once a week to hang out, look around, and watch a ski movie they have playing.
- Totem Pole is now Jacks local shop and he will never forget that.
Because of a day of progression, free pizza, and talking to Ian Compton, Jack now have a passion for skiing that will last a lifetime. A life long passion also means many things for the industry as a whole.
1. More skis will be sold over the years
2. Jack will share his passion with his friends, and eventually he will share it with his children.
3. More fun days skiing means less days sitting around getting fat.
4. More money being pumped into the industry.
5. One day Jack might become like Ian and inspire the next generation.
I want to help grow skiing from the ground up by sharing the same passion I have for the lifestyle. I have done this with Line Traveling Circus, coaching at Windells, and last year with Tell A Friend Tour. Supporting Tell A Friend Tour is also helping support the industry.
Over the last year I have been hording stuff I get from my sponsors so I can give it away in the name of Tell A Friend Tour. I'm using it as free giveaways for the tour, and for people who donate to the cause. I have things ranging from brand new Line Skis, to Orage jackets, to shirts, Meathead DVDs, and hats. The donation options compared to many other crowdfunding campaigns is night and day. I want to give something of value to people who believe in me because I know that money doesn’t come easy. That being said I only wish I had more stuff to give away to make donation options cheaper.
Take a look at my RallyMe Page for donation options:
