My budget is about $500 dollars, but Christmas is around the corner and can probably go up a bit with some help from family or friends.
2) What experience do you already have with cameras? Have you ever even used one before? Have you helped your friend out with his camera? Have you owned your own?

I've used a DSLR that my family has, but I don't have much experience with it. Never owned my own camera. Have already been researching and learning about different camera functions, etc.
2) What gear, if any, do you currently have? (tripod, old camera lenses, mics, etc)
I have an old Cannon lens. "Canon Zoom Lens EF 35-80mm 1:4-5.6 III, (circle with slash through it) 25mm". Looks like I should be able to use it on new Canon lenses since it says EF on it. I have no idea how good of a lens it is though and am open to other brands if it is worth it to change. Don't have a mic but will get one. Don't include it in the budget, I can go without until I have the cash.
4) What are you planning to shoot and how do you want to use your camera? Are you going to use this with the sole purpose of shooting skiing? or do you think you might try other stuff as well (movies, documentaries, short films, etc)

Shoot photos and video, use in concurrent with GoPro Hero 2 and the new Sony Actioncam to produce some edits for myself and some buddies. Would like to be able to use the camera for other purposes, but main focus is skiing and action sports.
5) Do you want a camera that you can hand to your friends, that could or could not have film experience, and let them shoot you? or will you be doing all the filming?

Only one other friend will be handling the camera, and he has about the same level experience as myself. But we are both planning on really getting on top of learning about the equipment and how to shoot well.
6) When filming skiing, how do you tend to shoot? (follow cams, leave it on record on a tripod and hike, film from a tripod, etc)
Will most likely film from a tripod. Use our dual action cams for follow shots.
7) What computer do you currently have/use to edit (if not currently editing, what would you most likely use)? If you can provide specifics, such as hard drive space, RAM, processor size, that would be great.

Have a 2012 13" MacBook Pro, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, about 500 GB free hard drive space.
7) What program do you currently edit on? How familiar are you with it (1- just learning; 10- I can make tutorials and know the keyboard layout)

Somewhat familiar with Photoshop but plan on learning a lot in the coming season.
Most likely looking at a DSLR camera, preferably one that has HD video capabilities. Thanks a ton for any help!
