Such a great idea. The 60 Minutes segment about Amazon goes into more detail about it. I just wonder who they're going to combat people fucking with them by shooting at them with a BB gun or when it lands. Either way, this will happen within the next decade for sure, more than likely within the next five years. What an incredible company Amazon is.

I could rattle off countless problems with this just off the top of my head....

How are they going to prevent theft / tampering with the drones?

What energy source do the units run off of?

How will they travel long distances?

What happens when a drone fucks up an an order is lost?

Will each order be shipped out in a new one of those fancy ass hardshell plastic boxes?


...I'm calling bullshit on this one as of now.
It is a cool idea and I have no doubt this will be implemented in the future but as of now this is way too poorly thought out to become reality in the next few years.

quadrotor drones have been out there for a while, energy is not a problem
they will probably only do deliveries in the same state

Heres an article from forbes that goes into more detail, and it makes it seem really beleivable. They also mention that they will have a 10 mile operating radius from the warehouses, so it would only be available in cities and other important areas like that.

You fucking boobs actually believe this? Nevermind Amazon somehow miraculously striking a deal with the FAA in 2 years time....think of all the logistical nightmares and planning they would need to do within those 2 years to get htis up an running

They simply went on 60 minutes, talked some shit about this awesome new delivery system and BAM next morning everyone and their mother is talking about Amazon. It is no coincidence that everyone is talking about Amazon on the biggest online retail day of the year...

meh, in 10-15 years I expect this will be pretty standardized, with UPS/FEDEX moving towards it in urban locations, combine with your smart phone, and they could deliver your smaller packages to wherever you happen to be at the time. It will happen. Just not in a 3 year time frame.

All but the last of your questions are problems humans have with shipping now. 1. Put a gps on it, tampering with it would be similar to stealing mail from someone which does happen but is punishable by a felony federal charge 2. Lithium ion battery's people can make nowadays are ridiculous not to mention the ones that aren't easily available to the general pop. 3. I bet it will be used for large pop cities located near warehouses ex: LA NYC Portland ect. 4. Insurance the mail system fucks up orders all the time you claim it and get new shit 5. They can make those boxes for less then 2 dollars guaranteed and I'm willing to bet the cost of this particular method to consumer will be quite high kinda like next day air shipping if u want it now it's gunna cost you which in turn makes the very minimal cost of the box insignificant.

Same could be said about the local delivery man yet people don't go around doing that. All this being said I'm not saying its gunna happen an that there won't be problems with this method just that the aforementioned concerns are kinda "dumb"
