the cell phone will fuck with the signal if you are in SEARCH mode. so if you're buried the snow, the signal that your beacon is giving off will not be effected.
I saw this on unofficial networks too, and it seems like the effects of the cell phone are fairly minor when compared with the benefits of being able to call SAR or airmed if something goes wrong
My tracker2 picked up my roommates phone from about 8ft and totally screwed the signal. My phone with no data or bluetooth on still interupted the signal but only from about 1ft.
You can leave you phone on and not have any problems, just put it on airplane mode.. Not shure whats the correct name for it. It just shuts down all signals. You can take pictures and when you need to call it will find a signal within seconds. Play safe and just do this..
I am not shure about the GoPro thing that only the newer models do that, but it seems logic..
Yeah you will. Your body temperature will rapidly plummet from the warm 98.6 degrees it was at, to the temperature of the surrounding air. You'll be cooler than cool. ICE COLD.
Turn your phone off and put it in your backpack. All electronics affect your beacon. It I not worth the risk do you can all search and rescue. If your beacon isn't functioning properly you will be des by the time search and rescue makes it to you because your friends couldn't find you to dig you out. Someone can turn their phone on and call search and rescue when they need to.
The latest studies from te international snow sciences workshop are saying anything electrical interferes. Electronic glove/boot heaters. Magnets on jackets. Everything. Why take the risk.
