How Fucked Am I

I just want to get a rough idea how fucked I am...

-Saturday I got pulled over for speeding in Massachusetts (My residency is in Connecticut)

-Got a $200 ticket for going around 85 in a 65.

-I'm 17 and can't have passengers for another 2 months, but at the time I was cited I had two (No Mention of this on the Citation however)

-Was driving my friend's dad's car

-Backseat passenger allegedly didn't have seat belt on

Basically what happened was I was driving because my friend who was supposed to drive was too tired. Accidentally turned off cruise control at the top of a hill and I didn't notice. Gravity screwed me over and brought my speed up to 85.

I'm not 18 yet and was going 20 over out of state. Do I get penalized in my state (CT) or in the state where I got the citation.

Just explain it to the judge exactly how you explained it to us here. Make sure you really emphasize how it is NOT your fault and is purely gravity's fault. You're perfect and can do no wrong. This is a great outlook in life. Looks like it caught up to you.

you might get one like mark or whatever they call it on your license but its not bad as long as you don't get another thats when it could potentially get suspended but if all you got was the ticket and paid it you should be fine

first off, who accidentally takes cruise control off and doesn't realize it? (besides inexperienced 17 year olds)
Second, take this as a lesson and slow your roll homie. 95% of traffic fatalities happen when the person is in their first 5 years of driving*

i'm sure its not like you will get arrested and never be able to drive but dude, follow the rules you punk. Shit i remember being out after midnight when i was 16 and riding dirty, but i made sure to not be on highways or in town where you will see a cop

This actually happened to me in September..except in state

I live in NJ, got pulled over doing 90 in a 65 with 3 kids in the car, I'm 17, but i was driving kids to sailing practice who didnt have a ride, and we were running super late, the cop was pretty cool for the most part, and my parents obviously understood. I somehow got out of it and only had to pay a $90 fine, no points.

Where ever you are, out of state, and get pulled over especially with the probation license means you're 100% fucked. If you didn't tell your parents, just tell them the situation and what happened, maybe your parents are cool idk. You could try and fight it in saying you not all of it was true, but that's probably a bad idea. Just go to court and hopefully the judge is cool and only has you pay a fine and no points.

If the cop wrote down all of what you said on the ticket, than you're 90% getting points and no deduction on the ticket.

For the record, I'm not expecting to get arrested or get raped in prison for eternity. I just want to know if anyone has any experience with the driving laws for people under the age of 18 in Massachusetts that may pertain to my specific situation. I believe that being 20 over brings a chance that my license will get suspended, which would mean losing my job.

It's crazy how different cops are. I got pulled over for a 67 in a 45 making a pretty aggressive pass last Saturday night, we had just smoked in the car and we had a 30 rack in the trunk. I got let off on a warning

I believe Massachusetts does check on out of state violations. In PA, you get your license revoked for 3 months if you get a underage drinking citation, but some of my friends were still able to drive in other states, it was only revoked in PA. My friend from mass wasn't as lucky, they found out and fully revoked it. Not sure if that will help at all, but its semi related.

from my experiences when you get pulled over, the cop will explain everything you need to do in order to take care of the ticket, if he never said that a court apperance was mandatory and your ticket didnt say anything about going into court, you shouldnt have to as long as you pay your ticket on time.

Ah, I put one of those less than signs and it deleted the rest of my post.

Before, it was only for under 18. Now, everyone is required to wear a seat belt, no matter where they sit in a car.

CT deffinatly reports traffic violations MA so I'm sure the MA does the same. (I've been ticketed in CT and NH and both show on my MA record and effected my insurance). Because of your age there's a good chance your insurance will sky rocket in price. And between the how fast you were going and the Passengers in your car you should expect to receive a letter in the mail telling you your licence is suspended maybe until your 18.. you may be able to negotiate to have it reinstated. You should deffinatly go to court for the speeding ticket. Typically you'll get a reduction in the speed/fee just for going and that will effect how much your insurance will go up. But the passenger thing isn't a court issue it's a DMV decision it will be reported to them and they will suspend your licence no court date required. Good luck man. Crossing my fingers that you get away with the passenger part with some stroke of luck

Unless you have a commercial drivers license, you wont have any points taken off of your license. All you'll have to do is pay a fine. Points are only taken off your license if you are in the state you have residency in. As long as you pay the fine you shouldnt have issues, or just never drive again in MA. I got pulled over in Alabama a couple years back and still have never paid the fine. I live in Colorado and never see going back there so it shouldnt be a big deal and have been pulled over since and never had a warrant.

Ended up paying the ticket in full because my mom doesn't want to go to Massachusetts to fight the ticket and hiring an attorney to fight it is way too expensive. Hopefully if I have good behavior, I'll get internet access so I can go on NSG while im in prison.

I know 20 over in CT can get you a wreckless driving citation, a coulple of my friends have gotten it and had their liscenses suspended for 1-6 months

Hahah. Not infering you'll be in real trouble. Just be ready for the suspension letter. Again. I'm hoping because of it being out of state you'll avoid loosing it. But always good to be prepared. Did the cop give you any paper work stating that you had passengers and weren't suppose to? Did he even bring it up in conversation or did you just mention it because you know you weren't suppose to? Because if he didn't bring it up I doubt he reported it
