I need some tips for getting on urban. (Don't know if that's what it's called but when you get on from one side and the rail is higher than the jump). Broke my back 2 years so I didn't ski at all last year and it's my 3rd day tomarrow back on skis. I can slide regular rails that have the rail level with the jump just fine. And my skis are mounted about 2 back if that matters. Thanks

Ok these douchebags aren't being very helpful. There are a couple of ways to do it. Some people like to approach the rail in line but right up close to it and hop sideways. Some like to approach from 45 degrees. I like a combination of the two. When I started doing a street approach I would always instinctively step up with my inside leg before my outside leg left the snow. Don't be too scared of that. The most important thing to remember is to get your downhill foot on the rail asap. That's what'll keep you from sliding out onto your hip. The rest will take care of itself with practise.

I always rock back on my tails and kind of ollie on, don't think thats how I first learned to do though.
I would say find a rail that is just slightly urban and work your way up. Definitely dont approach it at a 45 degree angle thats way too much. Just a small angle relatively close to the rail will do.
If you are having problems staying on the rail and keep sliding off to the opposite side you approached the rail from you will want to kind of hit the side of the rail and rock up onto the top of it that way you stop some of the sideways momentum. Hope that makes sense.
