Deciding on Ski Trip Location - Utah/Wyoming

Hey guys,

Me and my dad are heading somewhere out west this March break to go skiing. We will be flying into Salt Lake City. We're having a hard time deciding whether or not we should head into the Jackson Hole area, or stay in the immediate SLC area (Alta/Snowbird/PC). We are also debating doing both. We could fly into SLC, drive the 4ish hours into JH, ski a few days, then drive back to SLC and ski a few days there. Going to JH at all involves driving and a rental car.

Any opinions on which choice would offer the best experience? Is JH worth the trek at that time of the year?

Alright first off, both UT and Jackson Hole have amazing terrain. The biggest factor for me would be which one has better snow and what the future forecasts look like.

All else being equal, UT has a lot more variety. Personally, I would do a trek to both UT and WY.

yea i mean if you have the time / money and the weather is good in both spots make it a trip.  keep an eye on both snow forecasts as the winter progresses and see wheres theres more base, better snowpack, and more consistent storms. 
check wasatchsnowforecast.com for all your utah needs and probably noaa for both.

 i'd suggest renting a car either way if you're going to be staying in slc. that way you'll be able to stay in town and hit up all those resorts you mentioned.  the only time i'd say dont rent a car is if you're going to be staying at alta/ bird , tude/brighton, or in pc.  but if you stay at any of those spots you're kind of committing to just skiing those as busing is kind of a pain in the ass.

It depends when you'll be here too, the cottonwoods can get really crowded on big weekend while JH stays a little quieter

You guys are making the right choice. That said, since you're flying into SLC you should just plan on taking advantage of staying close. There's so many good places to go, Snowbird, Alta, Solitude, Brighton... If a storm does head to JH though, go ahead and go for it but SLC is top notch so not too much reason to get out of dodge. We had the opposite dilemma, we were spending a week in JH and wanted to drive to SLC to ski there, but it was snowing in JH and not so much in Utah so we stayed. Just have a backup plan if you're set on JH as well
