Are my skis ruined?

Hey NS,

so yesterday I was skiing in my backyard because I couldn't wait for the mountain to open. We had 3 inches of snow from the day before and I spent a few hours building a jump, landings, and a "runway".

What I did not notice were the hundreds of fucking WALNUTS. So I rode over them and now my skis look like this.

Are they ruined?
Can it be fixed with a simple tune?
Will this affect my skiing?
Please I just got these skis and I worked all summer to afford my skis and boots.

They're fine. Basic tune should do the trick. Just wax and maybe p-tex if any of the scratches are deep enough

If you're just going to abuse them more, don't even bother "fixing" that. It's just scraped up a little, the first time you ski through the park they'll be even worse.

They aren't just scraped up some of the scratches go in and I can stick the tip of my fingernail into it.

Dude shut up you're being a little bitch. If you don't want your bases to be scraped, don't fucking ski when there's 3" of snow outside. Your skis are fine and it doesn't effect performance. Just beat them mercilessly until you see the core- then start to worry.

Go into a decent shop. Ask them to throw them on their Wintersteiger or other precision stone grinder. Tell them you want a 1 degree bevel on the base, a 1 degree on the side, and ask them to detune them a bit.

A little wax wouldn't hurt either. They usual do that unless you ask them not to. The wax makes your bases so they have a little give to them. That way when you run over shit, it won't scratch up your bases as much. Your bases were probably too dry.

If your edges are too sharp after the tune, use a drywall sanding sponge to detune more. If you want to know how to do this, there is a video on my profile.

First off, he is an adult. Secondly, youre worried about park skis you will end up destroying on rails? The irony.

Unless you are planning on using these skis for racing (which would be idiotic anyway) base marks have little to no impact on your skiing. You will have similar marks after the first day skiing anyway from hitting little rocks. If you want to truly fix the problem, dont ski. Skis are not meant to be mounted on walls like pieces of art. Theyre meant to be skied on.

But in all honesty, wait till the end of the season to get any work done. There is more likely to be less wait, and it will fix the issues you encounter during the season.

OP you just need to accept the fact that you dont know shit. if you did, you wouldnt have skied in 3 inches of snow and expected your skis to be fine. that being said, skis get scratched. why ask for advice if you arent going to listen and just do whatever the fuck you want. you dont need to worry about it, any experienced skier would tell you that. stop crying

you're good a basic tune should do it and if you don't want to drop them off at the shop to have them stone-grinded to fix it, you might be able to fill some of the deeper ones with wax.

haha your worried about tiny scratches on PARK skis HAHAHA

but actually if you want them fixed so you can ruin them again your first day in the park bring them to a well respected skishop and tell them you want a base grind and you want your edges set to 1 on the base and 1 or 2 on the side, a 1 would be a less aggressive edge and a 2 would be more aggressive better for all mtn skiing not so much park

Ok you skied in 3 inches of snow and scratched your bases. That was pretty stupid of you. But they're park skis, so they're gonna get wrecked anyways. Don't worry about it, they'll be destroyed by the end of the season anyways.

ask for a stonegrind at the shop if you really want to fix it.
basically grinds a little bit off of the whole thing and gives you a new base

but really, the skis are fine, you wont even notice a difference
