So here is the deal, I got the new chronically last year, which have sintered bases, and I got them waxed right when I got them and that's it. I skied all last season without waxing them or anything then let them just sit all summer. After doing some research I noticed that my bases could be dead from like drying out. I looked at them and they show a little whiteness at the tip and tail but I thought it may have always been there. Is this a concern I should have, like are my bases pretty fucked up? Also, do I need to wax them before I ski Saturday?
I'd definitely wax em. Keeps the base in good shape and the skis should be noticeably faster. If they turn white again really quick they're probably burnt and that can be fix with a base grind. The skis are far from being screwed though.
Wax them ASAP, but also get them to a base grinder sooner then later. The white parts on your bases wont absorb wax well either. Once they are grind down the bases will be just like new and still absorb a lot of wax. It is always a good idea to hot wax your skis to before you store them for the summer also do not scrape them before storing.
