I wouldn't go so far as to say there is nothing wrong with it, but I do agree that this country wouldn't be the same and I don't think that would be a bad thing.

Actually the story of Thanksgiving is fairly accurate. We are celebrating the survival of the Pilgrims in New England due to the help of the local indigenous tribes. Then we killed them all over time, but that is not what we celebrate.

funnily, the accent we have now (the "American" accent) was actually the british accent for the longest  time. those who lived in england during the american revolution talk like us modern day americans. However, after the revolution the english wanted to sound like more of the romantic languages that surround their island (french, italian, spanish, etc) so they devoloped that posh accent to distinguish themselves from those stupid farmers across the pond.

adding on,. all of skakespeares plays were spoken as if you and i were reading them during queen elizabeths time. so whenever you hear an english accent in a Shakespearean play, incorrect.

^Yeah the rhotic accent (pronunciation of a hard "r") was used in Britain until the turn of the 19th century when it became a status symbol to speak in what's now called a BBC accent. So British accents are literally designed to sound smarter and richer

Now I have a serious flaw with this theory.

So Canada and US speak the English language like the British did during the times of colonization. Which makes sense. Quebec French is similar to the antiquated French of the 17th century. So with little influence on the English in North America the language wouldn't change much and stay stagnant (as with Quebec French).

Now the big flaw are the other British colonies like New Zealand who were colonized well before the Victorian Era when the British accent supposedly changed. These colonies had even less influence on their language than North America so it would be a given that their language would stay even more stagnant.

So why is it the New Zealand accent is so much more close to British English than the North American accents?

because australia/new zealand were colonized by the british and were essentially islands where criminals were sent. im just running of memory here, so anyone please feel free to correct me, but, as no-steeze mentioned the BBC accent didnt develop till the turn of the 19th century. criminals from england sent down to the southern hemisphere+ geographic isolation + time+ interaction with ingenious peoples(?)= australian acent?

That doesn't explain New Zealand. New Zealand was colonized well before the British accent supposedly developed, yet the accent they speak is surprisingly close to the British accent today. So this kind of wrecks the theory that the modern British accent developed during the Victorian era.
