Bein a bitch

First day of the season and I'm skiing at keystone. I'm not too great at terrain park and I'm trying to get better but the problem is every time I get to the park I get intimidated by the enormous hoard of park rats and inevitably bitch out. How do I overcome this situation?

Inb4 don't be a pussy, man up, just do it etc.

I'm hoping for actual advice. Thanks!

Totally understand where you're coming from. I feel this way every time I make my annual migration to hood in the summer.
But you gotta realize that other guys feel the same way. As long as you're out there having fun and encouraging your friend to do the same, then that's all that matters.

I was in the same spot a few years ago, what really helped me was a backyard setup, there alot of fun and you can progress however and whenever you want. Honestly I dial down most of my rail tricks at the crib and usually refine style on the hill. Before you know it you'll be just as good as everyone else.

I can picture you right now man, seen many people in this position. My best advice to you is to get into that "just fuck it" mode and do a fuckin spread eagle off somethin cuz they be easy, but still be better than strait lineing it. Rock that gaper dude.

Dude, just try and realize that everyone starts somewhere and just try and look at the big picture. Have the foresight to see that in a year or so you'll have some tricks in your bag and at that point it gets easy. And make sure you keep falling. If you're afraid to fall, then you've lost before you've begun. If you can find people who are better than you to ski with that helps too.

I don't know what Keystone is like but if it is like other areas the crowd ebbs and flows. Not that you should care what anyone thinks but sometimes when there isn't a crowd it is just safer and easier to focus. I had zero experience at half pipe and last spring I timed it right and got a few runs in when no one was around.

dont fret homie. Kids don't look at you like your dumb like you think (for the most park) When i see someone progressing i get amped for them no matter what stage of skiing there at. Think about this, we all started pit shitty so when people look at someone worse then them they just think about when they were at they level. People understand when you fuck up, we all fuck up!!! Your tricks will probably never be the best on the hill but we arnt out their to be the best, we out there for a good as time! Keep progressing!! Keepp i fun!!

Ski for yourself and your own progression, but at the same time "park rats" usually have more respect for the guy trying new tricks. If you fall, you don't suck, that just means your pushing your own limits and people respect that (usually).

Do whatever hypes you up, and gets you in the zone to stomp some new tricks. Have fun with it man, its not a fashion show... well kinda.

I've had the same problem and to come with it I just put in headphones and do my best. I know some of the park rats at our smaller hill so they tend to say good job because they know you're trying your best.

I understand completely where you're coming from. I like to watch and not focus on others, then clear your head turn your music up and go ski.

Nothing brings progression like persistence. Lap. Lap. Lap.
It will come to you.

Don't be afraid to ask for help most free skiers are pretty chill, and if you want a trick tip they are probably just going to be stoked you're trying something new.

Just got back on snow post knee surgery after a year off, I couldn't even lock onto a rail. A lot of preseason days later pretty much have it all back. That's not to say I didn't look like an idiot in the process.

Start small. Work your way up. Push your comfort zone.

The park is full of people, which can be intimidating. Just remember all those kids aren't out to get you, they're just as stoked as you.

I feel ya man, I find it supper difficult to try to just be skiing for myself and not worrying about what other people think. But what I find helps is just find some buddies and go lap with them than your gonna feel your flow and all of your buddies as well! hope this helps, now go and have fun on your sticks!

For starters, unless someone is a total dick no one is going to make fun of you for not being amazing in the park. everyone has to start from somewhere. The only people who usually talk shit, or that are mouthy are younger kids. I'm talking about the little kids that yell on the lift and grill you in the lift line. Your initial response is to be intimidated by these shit talking kids who may have some skill. You then have to realize that these kids are more than likely rich little pussies whose parents buy them everything, and thus have some attitude problem. From here you can either man up and ignore any shit talkers or nay sayers and learn your stuff or you could do what black steve would do and get in their face. Talk back and don't be afraid to throw down if the situation arises. Claim your turf and show those little pussy rich kids what's good.
If the situation you are in is far different than what I have referenced above I would do as so; don't worry about what others think (this will give you the I don't give a fuck g steeze), get a crew-it's much easier to learn/progress/have confidence in the park if you are rolling with homies, don't hand bird, don't claim, and don't beam if you land a trick-common courtesy, smoke weed-it will help you meet people, say whats good to the "park rats" most of the time they will be good people who have the same love for skiing that you do.

Bro dont worry about the "intimidating" park rats. I felt a little the same way when I started out in the park. But really park rats are generally super chill and cool guys, and are often more than willing to help you learn shit just because they love the sport so much.
