Sammy's Orbital 10 - New rotation or not.

Yes, the video is on the Home page, but I thought this might be a fun discussion. It is definitely sick whatever it is and looks like a dub flat to me, but do you guys think this is something new? Did a gym session a few days ago with some friends and one guy was trying to do this off a mini tramp into a foam pit. Never really got close to the same rotation.

The whole edit is unreal, especially the hand drags. The underflip hand drag was so sick.

Anyway, the Orbital 10 is the last shot. Thoughts?

Looks more like a flat 3 to a flat 7. I think the grab makes the whole trick, if he was grabbing a japan it would look more like a double rodeo 10.
Anyway, its always sick to see new tricks and new double variations.

Haha, you can't end the thread by mis-labelling the trick - it is definitely not a double misty. It's an unusual looking and very flat double flat.

I also have to disagree with you. There's more flip in a Misty. His feet never come over his head. I can throw Misty's no problem, but throwing something flat like that still vexes me. I have to start like I'm throwing a lincoln and gradually try to flatten it out. It's like you have to punch across instead of "punching the midget" for a misty.

After watching it a good 50 times, I think it is indeed a new rotation.

Here's my take. In a normal, uncorked rotation, the axis you spin around is changing. It starts as the red line on the left side of my diagram. It then rotates to the left, and should be perpendicular to the landing upon landing. In the orbital rotation, however, it appears that Sammy rotates solely around a vertical line - see the right side of my diagram. This makes the rotation look almost like a flatspin/rodeo.

the one sammy does in that video is for sure a dub bio, but people have done a sort of cross between bio and flat. that just wasn't really one.

It's just like an insanely flat dub flat or dub rodeo. It's the flat motion, with his legs basically spinning around his body (this probably makes no sense to anyone but me) as if he were sitting in a chair. I guess the last one could maybe be called dub bio as it's kind of a forward set. But in the end I'd probably just call it a realllllly flat dub flat.

Alright so I look at the second half of this spin as like a chest down flatspin. So look at it like this, the rotations in skiing we have that are thrown backwards are Rodeo, D-Spin, Cork, and Flatspins. Then forwards we have mistys and Bios. So I think the first half of the trick is pretty much just straight flat, but then the second half would be whatever the opposite of a flatspin but thrown forward would be called, just like how (In my mind) a cork is opposite bio and a dspin is opposite a misty.

You can look at Sammys vs Henriks lobster just as they're throwing it, and it's clear they're different. Henrik's leaning backwards, opening up and back as he gets the first 90 rotation, while Sammy is slightly forward leaning his right shoulder downwards.

Okay how the fuck is this a flatspin??? Aren't flatspins backward? At least this trick is not. I'd say the trick spins somewhere between the axes of a bio (forward spin) and a cork (thrown to the side). And i think that there's no need for a "fifth direction" since we've already got four: bios and mistys are forward, flatspins and underflips are backward, and when spinning left, corks are thrown to the left side and rodeos to the right. So I don't see it logical to give a name for a trick that is between a bio and a cork, but not for example for a trick that spins between a bio and a rodeo. I'm not sure why did I even bother to write this thing because it seems that everybody's just trying to guess the names, and nearly no one really gives a proper explanation of their thoughts.
