My bad that i wear a helmet and butt pads to help make sure i make it through the season and also make sure im not too sore to ski from bailing all the time.

that thing just seems restrictive and useless. I think hes making fun of the tread where somebody was complaining about how their crash pad doesnt protect their hip or some shit.

I made that thread, OP probably doesn't realize how painful a hip pointer is. OP probably doesnt realize how hard snow/ice is in the midwest (especially in preseason). Although, I wouldn't complain being in layers and layers of bubble wrap, I could literally try anything and not get hurt.

It is kinda crazy when you think about it. Look at freestyle motocross riders. Most of them are all armored up. While with skiing, your not flying through the air with a 300 lb bike, I still think it is kinda nuts how big people are going, only wearing snow gear and a helmet.

pads if anything are smart. they prevent injury. It all relies on yourself and what you want to do with your skiing style. NS is not a good way to start

Nothing wrong with lowering the risk on our calculated risk. If I hadn't worn a helmet, instead of a 2 week coma and 2 month rehab to relearn how to walk and talk, i'd be dead. if Pekka hadn't worn a helmet, He'd be dead. Same thing with a lot of pros, ams, and nobodies. Dead is bad, and some of the shit we do is actually dangerous. makes sense to plan accordingly.

So true. I don't remember ever seeing as many safety gear threads on NS as there has been this year. I try not to judge when it comes to people's personal choices, but whenever I see someone asking about hip and butt pads I assume you're a little bitch.

I only wear a helmet when I ski park, although which is for the most part all day everyday. things can and do go wrong from time to time. I'd imagine a lot of us have hit our heads really hard at one point in time

it is funny though seeing how helmets have moved from the park to every joe schmo in the liftline these days

all the pads you can fit on you wouldnt help in this situation.
i flipped about 15ft off a cornice onto sharp rocks last year and busted a kidney if i had a back protector on things might have been different. considering they are mandatory for some comps im going to be doing i will be picking one up

Wearing protection is quite restrictive, I've got nothing wrong with it, but my friend broke his neck the first day he wore a helmet - after skiing all his life without one - because it stopped his neck flexing naturally. (Please wear helmets). These protectives are quite restrictive when it comes to flex, and even though that was kind of a freak accident, they can cause damage. I'm all for helmets, but not for other stuff...

Totally depends on the gear, I know some wrist guards make your thumbs for succeptible to breaking. The proper gear should never restrict biomechanics.

This isn't relevant to skiing, but I believe football injuries have increased with pads, mostly due to better training techniques make linebacker bigger. Even if we were to invent perfect pads for skiing I feel like skier would just go bigger and injury rates would stay the same.

Anyone seriously calling anyone else a pussy for wearing gear is clearly under the age of say, 22 or so. Once you graduate from college or highschool and start working, and realize that you are getting older, you realize that it is unacceptable to be unable to do your job. Not to mention that really, once you get past 20 or so you really dont heal like you use to, and being sore all the time gets old in a hurry. I wear FULL gear, hard plates where ever I can get them. I am pretty much in some of the beefiest shit you can have on. I dont understand people who bitch that they make them less mobile. You clearly are not sizing your equipment right. Do I know I am wearing my pads when I have them on? Yes. Does it stop me from doing anything I would normally do while skiing? Not even close.

I didn't read the artcile ( I have work inn afew mins) but if you look at statistics alone you can argue almost anything. I would say the increase and accidents might have something to do with maybe more cars on the road and having faster and stronger cars perhaps?

For example, less people die in road accidents driving a Ferrari than a Ford. Therefore Ferraris are safer than fords.

I've heard of people having the same problem with avalanche airbags. Just because you've got one strapped to your back doesn't mean you should ski a slope that has a high chance of sliding.
