Broken iPhone screen, best way to get it fixed for free?

Dropped my phone this morning and the screen got absolutely obliterated. Poor college kid over here so what do I say to these apple people so they don't charge me $150 for a new screen? There has to be some technical thing that you can say is wrong but they can't fix so they give me one of those refurbished ones that they give out like candy to people.

if its an iPhone 4/4S then just buy a screen for $20 on ebay and fix it yourself

Insurance doesn't cover broken screens, water damage, losing it, etc. so fuck off and someone give me a good lie to tell these people

Use something to do with extreme heat to extreme cold and it cracked. That seems like a legitimate enough excuse. Generally the guys at the apple store aren't too bad and sometimes will replace things for free.

one of the few ways to do it for free is the sum bag way... steal someone elses and use theirs to fix yours. do not use their motherboard though

yeah, it's totally their fault because you couldn't fucking put your phone in a case...they should totally just give you a free phone because it's all their fault.

That dude has no idea what hes talking about. The 5 and 5s is just as easy, if not easier to fix then the 4. Buy the replacement screen+digitizer for $60 online and fix it. Its not that hard

thought so. I did my 4 and it wasn't to bad, just tedious. I watched a video on the 5 and it seemed much more simple


Im getting a 5s like this week, hopefully I never have to change um!

um actually I do, I've replaced dozens of iPhone screens throughout my life

the 4/4S is a bitch because you have to take out almost every component to get to the screen
the 5 is extremely easy just like the 3GS because the screen pops out first

the reason I said "good luck" is because finding a decent OEM quality screen for the 5 is a hell of a lot harder to find than the $20-30 ones for the 4/4S. OP said "free" in his title and its next to impossible to find a 5 screen with gorilla glass 2 for under $70

I hate apple and Iphones but I feel for OP dudes just looking for some help so he doesn't have to spend hundred replacing his shit and with all the apple fanboys around its a legit thread.  OP hope you get the advice you want.  Get a samsung when your contracts up.

buy a $30 kit and screen and do it yourself. It is really tedious and annoying, but saves you $$$. I did my old 4 four or five times I think...

Also, check the brands you buy for the replacement screen, the $20 ones don't work.
