so i am in charge of cooking the turkey this year. do you have any advice or good recipes for the best way to cook one. i was also thinking about smoking it my buddy has a smoker i could borrow.
If you have access to a smoker do that for sure. Look up some basic recipes for the smoke wood and temperature settings. Also you can find a recipe for a simple rub and then throw it in there for a couple hours with a thermometer hanging out the top through the vent holes and keep an eye on it. It will be 100x better than anything you can make in an oven
The #1 trick to deep-fry: Let your turkey warm up for a few hours before you start. Otherwise, by the time you get it cooked in the center, the outside will be awful.
This is your best option if you have no smoker or fryer. Also, feel free to subsitiute the syrup and bourbon for coke or dr pepper. Trust me, Im a doctor.
Brining and then tossing it in the oven in one of those oven bags is my option. Easy and the meat comes out super tender and moist. I tend to reserve my smoker for pork and higher fat content fish like salmon.
I've done some wild turkey breast (2-3 lb pieces) on the smoker a few times now and it came out good, but I just find it to be too much maintenance for too little reward.
