Public or Private Highschool

I am a sophomore right now at a public school in colorado and my parents said I could switch to a private school if I wanted to. In the past I have hated the idea of private schools but now my average class size is like 34 kids and I feel like I might be able to get a better education at a private school. Any one on ns have some insight for spagett the spagott?

Do it, the ones my friends in nyc go to were so much better, and got into such better schools plus you make a lot of conects some people own their own planes and just invite kids to go to aspen with them over winter break. http://nypost.com/2013/11/04/private-school-parties-out-of-control/

Don´t do it.
Only based on my personal experience but it didn't help my education, took all my motivation and happiness plus made me hate 90% of people I deal with everyday.
The people who run the school are fucking weirdos claiming ownership over your life even when classes are over and I regret that I never changed to a public school.

Depends on your learning style, public education type (large, small)

Do you prefer large or small classes?
Do you prefer close teacher-student relationships?
Do you like having a small student body?

Make a list that compares the differences and which are more important.

Most importantly, the last question you should ask is, do you think you will benefit from going to private school over public?

I did, and I dont regret it.

High school education isn't that big of a deal, I'd stay in public and tell your parents to spend that money on college.

Well it depends. The private high school i go to smaller than my public school would be. I really like this because i can get to know the teachers better and the smaller classes make it easier for me to focus and learn. I don't know about either of the schools you'll go to but mine offers retreats and cool things like that that really help make a sense of community. That being said there is always ups and downs i hated it the first two years and yes there will be some rich/stuck up/ assholes.

The education part really depends on what you put into it though. I know kids who have come out of my public school and gone to amazing schools, i also know kids at my private school that are not or have no gotten into good schools. Either school you go to it is going to depend on how much work you put in.

Do it. I'm also a sophmore in a private school and it's definitely worth it. About kids being dicks, well that depends on where you go. The friends I have couldn't be better, and there isn't one real mean kid in my grade. Also can help to prepare you for whatever path you want in life. It helps to options open for where you want to go and do. My only regret is a smaller class, and my friends not living in the same town. All in all, for me, it was good choice. But a big part of it is you, and what you want to get out your high school experience.

You mean high gpa and sat scores + extra curriculars?


He's saying he wants "a good education" doing well on the SAT and getting a's doesnt necessarily equal a good education.

Private highschools prepare you for the SAT and ACT much better then public schools do and plus it never hurts to have the name on the resume.

Well I am a sophomore right now so I am not really in the college process right now, but I am thinking along the lines of Middleberry or colgate. I am class president and On the debate team and in a bunch of other electives like that at my current school also.

I would say get involved in extracurricular but more than anything colleges care about test scores. I think it would be worth it to go to the other school because most private schools better prepare you for college

Mine just threw us at the test and hoped for the best. Now that I'm at a school with a bunch of east coast kids from private schools it's crazy how well prepares they are for the tests.

Senior graduating a private Catholic hs this spring. I went to an all-guys hs so that basically ruined most of the experience for me, although I do have a lot of great bros. The education is adequate, not really anything top notch like Phillips Exeter but definitely better than public school. What I really think shines is the connections you can build among alumni at a private school. We have about 300 people in each class, so there's a ton of powerful alumni who you can get to know and ask for favors later in life (like a job). Idk about other private schools, but for a Catholic hs everyone's kinda in a brotherhood, similar to a fraternity but not as intense.

Overall, I say go to private school. You'll hate it while you're there, but you'll love it down the road.

u only have to go thru 2 more years on public school. Its not that bad. Save ur parents 50k a year on private school or if u really want to do like Stratton Mountain school for a fun thing but the education there is probably really bad i assume

If you want to go to Middlebury i would do go private. My dad went there and it is literally so hard to get into right now. I hate to say it but the name of a good private school can also help in college admissions , all things to think about

When adjusted for background factors (race, parent's income, etc.), public schools are actually better than private.

Besides, your parents are better off putting the money they would have spent on tuition towards your college education, rather than spending it on an inferior education.

Help and hinder. If you are at a small school (80-100 in the graduation class) and 20 apply to a single liberal arts school, it is very unlikely they will take more than 5. We had 20 kids apply from my school (all of us had 4.0s and 32s or higher on ACT/2100 or higher on SAT with numerous ECs and APs) and only 2 got in, both being athletes.

thats what im saying, unless you are a super athlete ski racer, go to a super top notch school, having perfect grades and have some kind of legacy there its nearly impossible

A very uninformed statement. College is all about how you present yourself. You sell yourself on things other than your grades. Those are just numbers. You also have to remember colleges will weight your GPA differently depending where you went to school. A 4.0 from a Phillips Exeter/Andover/Middlesex will be much more impressive than one from a school in the hood.

Dont go where your friends are. Go where you will learn more.

where I am, on the south side of Chicago, Pretty much every dude I know goes to the one of the like 10 private schools that are all really close. So I go to private. But, it really doesn't matter too much, the harder the individual tries, the more successful you'll be and shit. However, a "better" education helps if you put work in.

Respected private schools will help you get into good colleges. My private school class size was 70, and 3 of us went to the same top ivy, another went to harvard and a few went to duke

DOOO IT

I went to an all boys military private school but the all girls school right next to my school (literally across the street) had some of the hottest women on the planet.

Also its a lot more fun if you go to the right school. The headmaster at my school was a bit of a pyromaniac so that was always interesting.

I have no idea what Kent Denver is like as a school, but top notch test scores and ECs are only a portion of the application. My father (although this is decades ago) had far from stellar ECs and Grades. Instead, what he had was a fabulous application/interview story. There are many things that can replace poor ECs or test scores. You sell yourself, not your grades. Take it from a kid who has gone through the process and has regrets. You cannot rest all your laurels upon numbers and titles. You need stories. Something that sets you apart.

Catholic schools are good in that they are harder than public schools which is good when applying for college. Then the food in the cafeteria is also better because there is money in the school to buy dope food. Bascially everything is better

I only had an 85 avg in hs and still got into the college of my choice. I smoked the sats though, alot better than pretty much every jackass overacheiving girl with a 4.3 fake inflated gpa in america. My hs didnt grade inflate. Grade inflation is the biggest crock of shit. There are so many hs kids with 4.3 gpas. What does a 4.3 gpa even mean? You are better than perfect? Haha

The question is, what is your college of choice? Everyone has a different one.

Listen, I understand numbers arent everything. If you read my posts you would see that. Its about selling yourself. Besides, there is a difference between "book smarts" and actual natural intelligence. You cant teach the latter. Some people are just more intellectually curious than overs and can comprehend things others may have difficulty with.

Grade inflation at those schools I mentioned happens because they are all ranked within the top 20 hardest prep schools in the east coast. When a graduating class of 100 has 25 kids going to Ivys/NESCAS's, they are doing something right. When a student can go from getting a B average at one of those schools to an A average at a top liberal arts school, it says something as well.
