Hi John,

Thanks for reaching out to me. I host all the premieres in Golden either through my own business or through a non-profit events group that I run.

I will have to pass on partnering with Warren Miller Entertainment as I do not believe they uphold the qualities that make working in the ski industry so enjoyable. I am referring to the 2009 lawsuit against Level 1 Productions for the use of the 'real' Warren Miller's voice in a ski video.

While I do understand it is business and there was a contract written with Warren Miller, I do not wish to partake is business of that kind.

Skiing is fun, Warren Miller is rad, Level 1 productions are small beans.

warren miller blows. I dont care if he was a pioneer his movies are unwatchable. Even at a young age I realized that film companies like R.A.P films and anything greg stump did were purely about the skiing and not just advertising and product placement.

this, he fucking lived in a trailer at sun valley and made ski movies for a living. Sure they dn't really translate perfectly too today but he was still a badass and made great movies

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply. I will still pass on hosting the film. Every dollar spent in one place is a dollar taken away from another place. Money is limited and there are many businesses that more accurately portray my attitudes than Warren Miller Ent. It's hard to support a company that does not even have the approval of the man who's name they promote and 'own.' It just doesn't sit well with a broke ski bum who promotes skiing to share the passion with others.

It's all opinion but I'll leave you with this. https://www.newschoolers.com/readnews/2916/Warren-Miller-on-WME-vs-Level-1?o=2 . I have never screened a Level 1 film either, but that is only because of the demographics of Golden.

Thanks Brian. While I appreciate your position and certainly your attitude, I am disappointed you feel that way. The movie is absolutely outstanding, we have had sold out shows across Canada and I wanted the Golden locals and guests to be able to enjoy it also. Being the new Canadian Distributor for Warren Miller films, I don't bring any baggage with me linked to that legal "episode". I choose to leave the legal stuff to the legal people because I am more grass roots just wanting to share skiing and snowboarding with other like minded adrenalin inspired average joe's like myself. I can't possibly be the judge and jury in that legal issue because I don't really have all of the facts. I would like to think that both Warren and the new owners of the company he started could play by the rules, honour their word and act like adults. Obviously someone couldn't which is why the legal action I guess.

I agree Level 1 is not a big threat. I like their stuff! I like everyone's films and make an effort to watch and enjoy them all. Isn't it cool that there is such a thing as a ski and snowboard film industry now!!!! Regardless, we all have to remember that Warren started this whole thing and it has been soooooo good for all of us. Why do people have to pit one film company against another? I choose to take the high road and support the all. There is strength in numbers and the fact that there are so many film companies out there now and so many big mountain skiers and snowboarders means that business is good and growing. I love the fact that people now go see 3 or 4 ski movies! And they all have a bit of a different approach which is cool too.

So, I guess I am hoping that you might be like minded and reconsider. By not hosting a Warren Miller film night the only person being harmed by the decision is the local in Golden or the guest to Golden that would enjoy a cold beer and another ski and snowboard movie! I'll understand if you don't call, but I hope you will.

I enjoy the grovelling, and the fact that it will be tough to have a successful ski movie premiere in this town without my support. It's only Golden, but it sure is gratifying.

I license and host all the movie premieres in town, either personally or through a non-profit org a few of us started. TGR, Sherpas, Sweetgrass, McConkey. Probably do a sled movie and maybe a snowboard one too.Showed Poor Boyz a few years ago but there aren't many jibbers here and I was disappointed by this years movie.

I think he's just a guy trying to make a living that likes ski movies. It's unfortunate that the legal actions of WME are hurting the little guys they employ, but I can understand not wanting to support any facet of the company as well.

And while we're on the subject, Refresh is my favorite ski movie of all time.

Are you stupid? Ski movies have always been about advertising and product placement. The North Face is still selling steeptech suits due to Scott Schmidt being awesome even though those things are lame as hell. Killer shots are now hitting the cutting room floor due to sponsorship dollars more now than ever. Stoked to see so many solo projects coming out where the athletes have a say of what goes into their segment/movie/project.

This pissed me off. Your trying to use the person your company threw under the bus for talking on another ski film as a reason why they should be accepted? And the one film company that directly pitted itself against another WAS YOUR FUCKING COMPANY. The hypocrisy level is well over 9000
