Shoe insoles in boots

Bad or good idea? I know you can go and get custom foot beds for boots but that's like 50-100 and I'm just wondering if you put some Dr. Scholls in there if they would help.

Bad idea. Proper footbeds support your foot, position your foot correctly in the shell, and prevent your foot from sliding forward in the boot. Soft, squishy insoles like Dr. Scholls don't do any of that and actually allow your foot to move and slide around inside the shell. They usually compound any fit issues you currently experience. Do yourself a favor and properly support your foot- your boots are the most important part of your setup.

If you don't want custom beds, get superfeet or similar. They do the job, and depending on your foot shape might do it perfectly. Always worth getting customs though...

have you had any experiance with the super feet route? and could i get custom superfeet or would that just be as expensive as footbeds

you can get a pair of superfeet trim to fits for $50. i wear them in all my shoes now.


best bet for your boots. if you have a low arch or already tight fitting boot use the blues.

I use superfeet in a set of ski boots, and a pair in most of my everyday footwear. Essentially, they do the same job as custom footbeds, but potentially not as well, depending on your foot shape.

Oh, and regarding colours, I use black in my ski boots and my vans, and green in my everyday trainers and hiking boots.

Superfeet are not great for ski boots they can offer more surport then the stock insole but they are not really worth 50 bucks. If you can't go custom look for sidas trim to fits. They are stil not great but they are better then superfeet.

But really every skier should go full custom. If made right they will way out live boots so you can get a lot of use from them. They will not only improve the fit but help the performance and can also help your boots pack out less so they will last longer.

Custom brands include sidas superfeet Aline and instaprint. By far the best are sidas but you do need a very good fitter to make them. Big resorts are your best bet for good fitters do maybe do some research and make a trip out if it.

There really isn't a substitute for full custom footbeds. Any trim to fit footbed isn't made for for foot and wont address the problems and strange shaping of your feet. But most of all it probably wont make your foot neutral. You need an experienced footer to make sure your foot is neutral

Definitely better to go rigid. Superfeet CAN help, and I say that because it is a big toss up and a possible waste of money if it doesn't work for you. I used to have those lovely green ones and they were alright but ages behind a custom footbed, but I think I only paid $20 for them. I have also heard horror stories about the plastic bases snapping from overshooting jumps and how it can really fuck up your feet for a few weeks after.
