I respect the Ivys other than Cornell which isn't one this is funny.


Dumb kids who are morons and can't get legit SAT scores but try harder than anyone in high school and have strait A's don't belong at top schools and the Ivys and Stanford go out of their way to keep people like that out.  I fucking loathe people like that and they all have a chip on their shoulder and are looking to drag down anyone smarter than them.  (I'm content in my intelligence level and enjoy it when I happen to come across someone smarter than me.)

More schools should punish tools like that and not let them in.

This is why the top ivys let in so many athletes. People who spent most of their time in sports who still smoke the sat tend to be smarter than the goody two shoes ppl who work their ass off for straight a's. still there are alot of overachievers at the top schools. Hard to weed them out

Whatever Im 28 and haven't had a job since I was 24 and my parents don't really like me or give me shit for my business.  Im smart enough. 

But I was also too dumb to do things like high level math and was too dumb to get a better Econ degree at my school I couldn't do it through our management school or get the better certification with having calculus based courses.  I also suck at writing.  I took a neuroscience class which was supposed to be pig easy and did worse than the football players.

Just like anyone else good at some things bad at others.  Creativity and outside the box thinking along with decent analytical skills are all I possess.  Everyone gets given certain tools to work with and make the most out of I am content with mine and enjoy meeting experts in their respective field.

People who only have average intelligence and try and make up for it by working harder than everyone else in school contribute nothing to society.  They would do better taking a step back and finding their niche.  BUt everything is a competition to them due to thier insecurity and spite of talented and smart individuals which makes them dumber.

Working hard does not equal working smart.  And assholes who spend 10 hours on a paper that only takes 1 hour deserve no fucking reward for that.  Do you want to hire a plumber that wil spend 2 days in your house or one that will take 2 hours?  Even though they both will do the same job. 


But that never applies to school the dumb kids who work hard kiss ass and get sympathy grades since they demonstrate putting in so much effort.  FUckers.

they don't fucking get in to Ivys, literally SAT is what kills most students, if you're looking at a school with an acceptance rate of 35% <, and you didn't do good on your SAT's, you probably aren't going there

YEah.  I know.  Thats why I said I respect the Ivys and Stanford.  People who claim to be nervous or horrible test takers and thats why they suck at SATs are full of shit.  ITs a comprehensive test of overall knowledge that a 15 year old should have taken when one is 16.  If you suck at it it means you know less than the guy sitting next to you who did better, not that you were fucking nervous.


Look, grades and the process of grading assignments is sort of bullshit.  WHen you are in a class your only responsiblity is to learn the material, and actually remember and take something away from it.  Not regurgitate what the teacher told you the day before or what you were forced to read the night before and to impress said teacher and boost their ego by showing off that you have no separate personal life and are willing to spend 4 fucking hours of your own time during the most fun years of your life writing a stupid paper. 

You should just demonstrate you are keeping up.  All assignments should be pass fail until a final which demonstrates what you will be taking away from the course.  In fact courses should be pass fail with a separate aptitude test at some point afterwards to it can be determined who actually knows the material and who doesn't.


But our education/grading system is the exact opposite and lends itself to dumb kids attempting to one up each other and sneak into schools they don't belong at with people far more talented and intellegent than them who will wipe the floor with them.  The pressure put on these kids by their parents to attend a boast worthy school makes things worse.

I mentioned my age the previous post ya dummy.

Might have ruffled some feathers, you might be the type that thinks you deserve a medal for taking AP courses and doing 6 hours of homework a night.  You probably think you're basicaly Jesus dying on the cross for humanity since instead of being a normal kid and burning a blunt after school with your boys you go home right away and do your homework.


For the record I was bottom 50% of a public high school class and attended a top 50 (at the time) US News and World Reports University.  Its hard for smart but non academic people like me to be correctly appreciated.  I did fucking horrible in college grades wise too but I actually learned and was educated and used the knowledge of what I majored in (econ) to manipulate markets in my field of business (ticket scalping) and support myself.  I'll happily text you a picture from my first row courtside seats for our elite 8 win last year not to mention I was the only alumni under age 30 balling out staying at the same 5 star hotel as the team in DC.  So whos the most successful alum my age I know?  Me.  And I did it based on merit not being a back stabbing ass kisser who just tries harder than everyone else cause they are dumb.

You know what else? Sat scores are highly correlated with iq. Yeah you have to know your stuff, but iq helps alot on sat scores. The top schools reward intelligence over effort. They could easily fill their schools with 4.2 gpa students who suck at the sat but they dont

I'm a teacher and that is absolute bullshit. I, and many of my co-workers, really base our grades on how much we like students. If you are a fucking nerd we give you an A and you leave us alone. If you are a jock, C-B range is where we'll keep you so you can stay on the team and also, conversely, leave us the fuck alone. If you fall into any other category we really just flip a coin or sometimes just give you a grade because who gives a fuck about you. Point is, we hate all of you and the sooner you are out of our classroom and into a juvenile detention center or living in your parents basement, eating easymac on your beer gut while watching reruns of cops, the better.

But...what if the kid sitting next to me is able to do better than I am/knows more than me because he can afford a more expensive/better tutor than I can and spent 10 more hours than I did studying for the test and learning the tricks that help you score higher on it?

I'm like you, non-academic person who still does decently well in school (top 25 liberal arts college), but i'm not going to sit here and pretend that you can't do better on the SAT than someone who is inherently smarter than you by studying more than they do.

Yeah, because schools need to keep the IQ level of their students as high as possible especially any school that aspires to have famous successful alumni outside of sports.  All you need is to have one Mark Zuckerberg and the reputation of your school will benefit from that for decades.  No average intelligence person who just works hard to get good grades can ever acheive or create something like him.

Furthermore of the accepted students those who have the highest test scores/IQs those are the ones most likely to turn down their acceptance and attend somewhere else.  So you have to compensate for the high IQ students that chose other schools with high IQ students who don't have the best grades.  (As opposed to more low IQ high grades kids.)

Then it sounds like you need to work a little harder doesn't it? The whole "tutor" thing is a joke. Yes a tutor can help, but it doesn't matter on the price. Are you serious? I was wondering how it fits into his theory that SAT scores aren't bullshit because they're based purely on knowledge and aren't affected by time spent studying for them, which I don't think is true.

And, no, how much you spend on tutoring does matter. A SAT course you take with a whole class, which is less expensive, is not going to help you as much as working individually with a private tutor, which is more expensive, would. And, beyond that, some private tutors are better then others, and thus cost more. It's just a fact.

Also the biggest crock of shit in hs and college classes is lab. Completely rewards effort and has no reward for intuition and understanding the material. All the stupid busywork like copying the procedure and printing your lab report on computer. Fucking mindless busywork

Yup.

I think I did half of a practice test out of one of those books with 3-4 old SATs (which is what I needed to be in a comfort zone and know what to expect it was one of the few tests I've taken in my life that I didn't finish 20 minutes early I remember finishing with only a minute or two to spare) and thats pretty much all the studying I did or anyone needs to do.  Assuming you don't have an elementary school vocabulary and can do middle school math of course.

The test just covers what 14/15 year olds should know since it has to be applicable to everyone. 


Obviously its not meant to be easy or else lots of people would get perfect scores and for multiple choice and of course they try and trick you and give you a wrong answer that's very similar to the correct one. 

Im not implying its easy but studying for it is stupid.

Of course I am sure there are plenty of kids with their helicopter parents who are fluent in fucking latin since it helps sats and can probably tell me how much better their life is because they can speak a dead language lol....

By the way my parents werent even proud of me for railing SATs.  THey hate me and my mom was fucking pissed off at me since it just proved to her I was a lazy asshole who didn't try at school.  I think she hit me with a book or something I clearly remember being extremely happy when I got my scores and telling her and just getting shit.  I thought I was going to be given car or just some money too I expected them to be so happy and proud and they weren't.


It was mad fun bragging about my scores in school though to kids who wouldn't admit what they got and just said they were taking it again and the results didn't matter and only idiots only take it once.  Lol.

Someone who studies more also takes it 4-5 times.

I think taking it that many times is the biggest factor.

I only think I was capable of 40 more points total than I got if I studied my balls off.  If I thought I could do better than the first one and was determined to raise my score I'd have studied way more than I did prior to the second taking but I was good with what I got and didn't wnat to do worse.


And some high school kids have to play sports or get a part time job not everyone has the time to study for SATs.

Is it? I spent a few sessions with a tutor who showed me a couple of tricks I didn't know before which helped me get a perfect score on the multiple choice on the writing section which helped me get into a better school. Seems like the long-term advantage of getting into a school with a better name will be worth the extra time/money to me.

Unless of course you want to start arguing about the importance of the quality'reputation of the college you go to, which is a whole other can of worms.

I'm not saying it doesn't, but the only way I can see someone justifying not spending a little extra time studying for the SATs to get a significantly higher score is by saying that the better schools that higher score will help you get into don't give you a long term advantage over the worse schools that you would get into without studying
