Thoughts on Squamish?

Extremely rad. Not much cheaper than Whistler. The whole sea-to-sky corridor is expensive.

Meh outside of Vancouver, and whistler BC is still semi affordable for property. well, at least not 800k for a small house type thing

I lived in Squamish for a year and a half. Its alright but I did find myself driving back to the city a lot to see people although I did enjoy my time while I was there.

I've spent a fair amount of time in Squamish. It is one of my favorite places in North America for sure. I was there for the climbing and it certainly did not disappoint. While I plan on returning many times, I'm not sure I would want to live there.

It rains a LOT.
It is a tourist town.
There is a weird mix of lumberjacks and climbers.
It's expensive.

On the plus side, there is a college there so other young people will be around. There are plenty of things to do including climbing, skiing, mountaineering, kitesurfing, lumberjacks, mountain biking, and hiking. If you do decide to move there, be sure to let me know so I can come crash with you on my next climbing trip.

i remember first driving through squamish back in 2003....nothing but a 7-11 and motel super 8

now it's basically everything..wal-mart, home depot, canadian tire, tim horton's, liquor store pretty cool to see that place grow on my annual trips to whistler

I'm liking all the positive things to be said about it. I've been 3 times spending 3-7 days in the area, twice in the summer once last winter, camped the whole time, even in the rain and puking heavy wet snow.
I just love the area.
As far as real estate, I'm thinking of going with a condo, 2 bedroom units in newer buildings are actually cheaper then real estate back home in Saskatoon Saskatchewan.
I don't see myself traveling back to the city much to see friends seeing as I don't actually know anyone in the area, at all haha [foreveralone.jpg] but every time i've been there I'm blown away by how friendly everyone is, especially with offering shuttle rides when I was riding up all the hills, so needless to say I think meeting people shouldn't be too difficult.
And since I plan on flying back and forth to work anyway, I don't have to worry about finding a job in the area (I'm an industrial electrician currently working in an underground mine 2 week on 2 weeks off and they pay travel)
