SOCHI 2014 Slopestyle Statistics

Writing a report on the SOCHI 2014 Olympics for my Business Stats class. I wasn't able to find any information on how the 2014 SOCHI slopestlye Olympics will be judged (points, ranking system) by each competitor and run. After doing some research I found the USSA freestyle/freeskiing 2013 competition guide. According to chapter 2, the following lists how each competitor is ranked according to a competition/event and their run. Unfortunately this is confusing as fuck and makes zero sense how to calculate:

If someone has better information or insight on how the slopestyle Olympics will be judged or how to read the information above please comment. Basically I'm trying to determine from previous competitions which competitor has the greatest percentage of qualifying for the olympic team or even, if possible chance of winning the mens USA slopestlye Olympics based on how each run is judged.

E.g. to show what I'm trying to find: Say for example I was trying to find each NFL team overall winning percentage compared to the important team statistics to see what realtionships exsist, if any, to determine what team statistics have the greatest impact on the team winning percentage. So you would use multiple regression statistics which I also want to use for my calculations in determining the competitor who has the best chance of qualifying for the USA team or winning the slopestyle event for the Olympics.

NFL Variables and Models Defined 

y-PCT   

 x1-Total offensive yards

x2-Total defensive yards

x3-Points for

x4-Points against

x5-Turnover margin

x6-Offensive penalty yards

x7-Defesnive penalty yards

x8-RTG quarteback passer rating

So from here you would compute multiple regression based off of these variables to find the winning percentage of each NFL team. So what variables are taken into account when computing a slopestyle competitors ranking (points) in order to find the comeptitor with the highest percentage of qualifying for the USA team or actually winning the 2013 slopestyle Olympics?

All of the stats that you mentioned in the NFL like points for or points against would be equivalent to something like number of doubles thrown in run or number of features in the course. You'll never collect that data and it's not worth trying to find.

You know event results but that is one statistic, not 8 things you're trying to use as predictor variables or whatever the fuck it's called.

I get you're trying to use skiing becaue your like it and you think it's interesting but it's just not worth it.

This. Use a sport with more measurable and well kept stats. Baseball, Football, Hockey, Basketball, Soccer. Use a sport that has stat nerds doing the work you need done. Skiing just doesn't have that.

I wrote a paper once that was 30 pages long about the kinetics of mogul skiing. Everyone elses papers were like 8 pages long. I don't think my Prof even read what I wrote but I score 100%.

The USSA guide you linked to shows the scoring for racking up FFSA points. You COULD theoretically write a paper on FFSA points or something similar but like t-rob said there's no info on how individual runs are scored. It's too subjective. Football has referees and scorekeepers. Skiing has judges.

I don't know if you could predict that with a linear regression just based off of certain variables. I think fluidity and style come into play and how different competitors execute their tricks and saying that Wallisch is smother than someone else is fine and all but there's really no numerical quantity to that.
