Thinking about doing ski surgery

I have a pair of 09/10 blends (i think that's the year, they are the orange and black ones) and I have really put in work on them. Last season I noticed a couple cracks in my edge, about an inch or so apart and right under my foot. I pulled them out last week and as I was scrapping off my summer wax I noticed that the section of edge that broke off has warped quite a bit and is pulling up my base. I took them to the shop last season and the dudes there told me it would be like 150 to 200 bucks to cut the section out and do a base/edge transplant. The problem is I really can't afford it, plus that's almost what I paid for them.

So in short I am thinking about cutting out the whole problem area and putting in a new section of edge and base myself. Has anyone on here done something like this before? I figure I can probably get some base material and edge from a shop, or maybe a factory, but I am not sure what kind of epoxy I need.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

That's really helpful, thanks. I think it's really my only option. I am worried that if I hit something my edge will tear out, in which case fixing probably won't be an option anymore, and I just don't have the funds to buy a new pair.

If the edge is poking out, cut the end and then leave it as is. No real point in transplanting a new section.

I've talked to a few people about edge pullouts and we determined that it's best to cut the exposed edge right out of the ski, and then backfill the area where the edge was with epoxy, and if you can, more or less build up an epoxy edge. That would be a far safer bet then trying to re-install edge and base, and will be more reliable in the long run anyways.

The edge isn't pulling out laterally with respect to my base but away from the edge. Its not so much a pull out as just warping of the edge that's happening, so i've got sort of a bubble under my base as the edge tries to pull away.
