Slackline Edit Critique

Hey guys,

It's been awhile since I've posted for a critique and even gotten enough time for a personal project. I'm still editing but I'd love to hear some critiques on this. I'm really hesitant about the titling but do plan to record sounds for the intro in the next couple days so just keep in mind that it won't be empty and quiet in the beginning. There's also no color work done yet.

I think this is a great edit. Some improvements I would suggest would be to warm up the colours a little bit because it was a little blue because of the overcast day, and try to use more shots where his head stays in the shot for when he is jumping.

I really love the intro though, and with sound it should be sick.

I'm not so much thinking music as I am clear, crisp walking/bag sounds.. Thoughts on this?

Yeah don't do music. If you do natural audio well, it will come out a lot better. Best to stick to one song for this kind of thing, and I like where it starts as is.

That was very well done. I liked it. Agree on the warm up the colors comment. Dont do intro music. Just enhance the natural walking sounds

Great edit! I personally really like the titling. what effects did you use or did you just keyframe it all?

Thanks guys. For this one I used a plugin called twitch. It's originally for AE but you can migrate it to premiere too. There's a lot of different things you can adjust with it so I'd check it out! (It does cost $45 though but you get some sound effects too)

That was awesome. I watched it like three times. Only thing is maybe small color adjustments but other than that it was great.

Dude nice thats so sick I have never seen people get that gnarly on those. Also great edit!

The only thing that really stood out to me after one watch was the crop aspect ratio. Some of the shots it was perfect for but there were a lot of shots where his head/upper body was cut off. I think in a lot of those instances they were not cut off farther or much farther than the top of the frame without the crop. I would take it out and just render it out in the standard HD aspect ratio just to see how much of that it solves and if its worth it.

Thanks for all the helps guys. Here's another more finished draft with some little changes.

I think I like the colder colors better so am heading in the direction of leaving them like that. I have to record the footstep audio tomorrow but I'm so stoked to have this almost complete. Hoping to be able to sneak in some slack line sounds too.

nice man, cool to see that you guys actually got to meet up and shoot, i'm sure justin will be stoked on it.

But IMO, the crop took away SO MUCH more than it added, there was a relatively small number of shots where i feel like it helped, and a large number of shots where eliminating the crop would have helped.
