What is skiing missing?

Hey guys, im in an engineering class at my high school and i have a $100 budget and a year to invent something. i want to do something ski related, but im wondering what you guys want most. So what do you think the skiing industry needs and why?

Serious answer: look into re-designing brakes to suit the increase of switch riding in free-skiing but it has to be done in a way that isn't going to increase production costs. I.e. limit yourself to 6/7 parts.

BC skiers need an efficient, cold weather performing, emergency air supply.  I spoke with my Avi 1 instructor about this because they already have it for surfers, kayakers, etc.  He said the issue is these oxygen supplies do not work in cold weather.  Here are two examples already out:

Some kind of completely invisible and inconspicuous interface between helmet and goggles to keep them from getting gaper gap. Some kind of adhesive clips that could be potentially put on any goggle/helmet combo.

Something that emits heat from the back of your bag so if you get caught in an avalanche, you press a button and if you get trapped under you melt the snow around enough for an air pocket or freedom.

A helmet hat. A hat which you wear with enough padding/protection that you can look cool AND be safe.

A watch or computer device which you can easily wear which tells your precise location, altitude, visibility for the day, snowfall etc (just skiing related things)

A device which when pulled releases a 20/30 metre long lightweight rope, with a strong and vivid helium ballon/inflatable which you pull whilst in an avalanche - makes it easier to find you. This will easily be made within the $100 budget

Make stickers for your bases, like out of ptex so you would put them on your base and then put a flame to it. It will make SOOO much money

Of the top of my head, here's what I thought of:

Having your brakes bend from switch landings is a real bitch. The way it happens is the brake hits the snow from your ski landing slightly off-kilter, bending your brake and frustrating your brain.

solution: Modify a pair of bindings so that when you click into the boots, the brakes come up farther than just above the ski.

A ski where the edges can recede from where the edge of the ski usually is, to where it is out of the way when jibbing.

Plus im sure it already exists, but gloves that work on any touch screen.

Do you have to produce a working prototype of the product? Try using 3D printing to create something, thats the cheapest route you can go if you have access to SolidWorks and AutoCad. Otherwise I would be hard pressed to think you could make anything substantial. Im an Industrial Design student and know first hand how expensive materials for outdoor sporting equipment is. If it just has to be a concept and a model than you could do a ton with $100. Shape something out of a block of foam and paint it if it doesnt have to move or work.

A system for telling if jump lines are clear or not, it could work kind of like street lights. It sucks when you can't tell if somebody has fallen or not so you may not be as confident(knowing what tricks you are going to try) as you would be if you could tell if they had cleared the line. The best way this could work would be if there are cameras looking at the landings of the jumps and some person watching watching them; then there could be a light that the camera guy controls telling either which jumps are clear, or if the whole line is clear or not.

I think this should be more autonomous, your idea sounds like too much work.

Maybe do something mechanical where there's some sort of switch set up on the ground about ~15 ft ahead of the landing. If the skier sets off this switch, it either means he cleared the landing and rode over the switch, or it means he fell and slid far enough to set off the switch. The latter case would still mean the jump is cleared since the fallen skier is at least 15ft out of the way. Obviously a lot more needs to be worked out here.

Something a bit more complicated is to setup a webcam on the landing; use object detection to detect whether a skier is on the ground or not.

It's simple. Pair of ir/laser light gates and a indicator light on the table/top of run in. One light gate 3/4 of the way down the run in. When rider passes through indicator light goes red. Second light gate 15ft beyond the gucci plateau. When the rider passes through the light gate the indicator light goes green again. Too long on red people will have to go check whats happening or you could hook it up so after x mins of red indicator light, ski patrol is paged or whatever.
