What is skiing missing?

Hey guys, im in an engineering class at my high school and i have a $100 budget and a year to invent something. i want to do something ski related, but im wondering what you guys want most. So what do you think the skiing industry needs and why?

Skis need brakes, I get so tired from pizza-ing and my legs hurt

Also smaller groomers that can work while the run stays open so the runs stay groomed all day

skis that dont have to be drilled in order to mount skis like snowboards are. If I want to adjust where my mount is I can unscrew and move the binding myself without redrilling and depreciating the ski. This could allow skis and bindings to be swapped aswell kind of like quiver killers.

companies would never build these because it would lose them money, but I'd be stoked if it happened.

An inexpensive, tiny GPS chip (similar to what the company Tile is creating) that you stick on your ski. It gives you the exact location on your phone for when you lose a ski in powder. No more waiting until spring to find lost skis.

Boom. If you're making cash off this, I want a cut. It's here in writing.

K2 did this a few years back paired with Marker.

Its a great idea but you are right everyone would lose money, skis would last longer, way less bindings would be sold.

We need to hire elves to work at every ski resort to take ski boots off the feet of skiers at the end of the day. That way we can kick back and enjoy some nice bootgasms without struggling to take them off on our own after a long day of shredding. A skier's happy ending.

k2 did this with tele bindings but not actual alpine bindings. and line did it with the binding they tried to develop. obviously the issue is the variation in mountain patterns and boot sizes so unfortunately it will never work with skis.

Like said above, the Line Reactor. Used four inserts underfoot that JLev had sort of intended/wanted to be an industry standard binding mount. It also had the infamous 3rd DIN that Knee Bindings uses to prevent torn knee ligaments that often happen in a backward twisting fall. What I think was a tight budget for proper R&D, and more importantly, proper manufacturing lead to the Reactor's downfall (or was it explosion...) Great idea that just never really happened. Then for the system to be truly universal, the added complications sklee mentioned also prevented it from being just that.

Having snowboarded on Burton's EST (channel) boards, I reckon someone could do the same with ski bindings.

Having said that i fucking hate the EST system, mainly because it's a money making scheme for Burton but also because the screws always come loose. Could be improved, though...

I couldnt find a good picture but blizzard used a binding track system that only used one screw. Unfortunately the bindings kinda sucked and the track would stick when the ski flexed. but now that I think about it could be updated to work with free skiing.

Yeah absolutely I don't see why not. It has all sorts of potential, including off the mountain. Have a look at tile app : http://www.thetileapp.com/ This sort of has most of the general principles covered - just need to market one directly towards the snow sports industry. Thoughts ?

yeah, but it's also awesome. a local hero from my old mountain used to always wear a backpack with a bong in it. people would assume he had like...gear that made sense in it but nope, it was a bong

It's a really cool idea. I could see it being useful in multiple ways. It could possibly help with lost people, skis, GoPros, really anything.
