East coast parks rant

after seeing the twsnow rankings for best parks in the east with mt snow #1 and killington #3 I feel the need to preach due to the fact that mt snow gets my $ for a pass because of their geographic location to me.

After riding 1 day at Killy last season their parks rails/ features were night and day better than mt snow- I've had a pass for mt snow for almost 10 yrs and Killy a few yrs in there too when they shared an all east pass. It's almost discouraging/frustrating to see mt snow put the same shitty rails in already that weren't cool 8 seasons ago/ killington and loon could show a lot of mtns how to make rails and use them creatively


Another disappointment over the yrs was Stratton- for any o.g rider that rode the USO/ VTO course that mtn could easily be the best in the east if they made that their full season park. Hands down best jumps 30, 40, 50fters I've ever rode. I hope Stratton sees this and considers!

Mt Snow is like a less gnarly version of PC on the east coast. Its one of the funnest mountains I've ridden at, mostly because of the relaxed atmosphere. They do have some booters though, Inferno is pretty gnar.

Loon should be on that list for sure. And def Sugarbush, chairlift accessed park laps all day. A few years ago a day pass for just park there was $15. So rad. Plus they look like they have been keeping up with all there features and they are under the radar for the most part.

I don't think it matters, they're both absolute money. Loon should be up there too, along with some others.

fuck southern vermont.  sugarbush for life.  also... back in the day loons jumps were superior to strattons for sure. 

but you cant really complain about the "rankings" anyways.  any magazine or website that is making that sort of statement is probably accepting donations from said resorts.

Carinthia and Stratton are both better than Killington.

Stratton always sets up dialed jump lines, grid their rails, and set up big features.

Mt Snow is the PCMR of the east.  OP is butthurt he cant ride their expert line.

I ski park city pretty much daily, but i still consider Mt Snow one the best parks ive ever ridden. shit's fun as hell man. you could be doing a lot worse for yourself

Im going to say (and probably get hate for it) that killy is a shitty mountain. Now that is based entirely on one day I went last season (first and last time) when they had just gotten a foot of snow and the whole mountain was an ice sheet because thousands of New Jersey ass holes scraped the mountain off in like an hour. They also put their big park (Dreammaker?) on some shitty, narrow trail that restricted the flow of any rail sections. And honestly, if you have a total of 8 rails in a park, why would you make 4 of them down rails? At least try to put some variety in. Also, it seems to me that their most extensive park (the Stash) is essentially snowboarders only. Out of like 45 features in that park maybe 3 are hittable on skis. And I think we can all agree that the vibe of an all-park face like carinthia is far better than chilling in lift lines at killy with the resort-following gapers that you just can't seem to escape /rant

ride on everything.

mountain creek in NJ probably has as many rails as in that photo of the Loon stuff. they jsut never use them or dont have/can't make enough snow to use them all.

I'm so damn annoyed by all the people that bitch about the east coast. You guys are fortunate to have resorts with amazing parks like Killington, Mt. Snow, and Loon. Try skiing the midwest. We get more Ice than you, and ski on hills and parks a 1/4th the size of your mountains.

^True that Seth, we have 175 foot tall chunks of ice to ski on in the Midwest.
And trollhaugen, in Wisconsin which is arguably one of the best and versatile parks in the MN/WI area is built by all snowboarders and 1 skier. Hitting their "snowboarder" features is a ton of fun and I think features they build and the way they set them up make it really easy to get creative and better on.

Carinthia is so dope. you wouldnt see 10 film crews there daily F/sat/sun if it wasnt the best.
Snowboard focused features is no longer an acceptable term.

Creek was def slacking last year. Either due to the slow start for cold temps or new managament in the last few years. I remember a few years back when Creek was at the top of their game for new park features and jump lines.

You just have to get creative in the stash, you can hit all of the jibs/bonks and wall rides on skis, the wooden rails can also be 5050 or you can grind them if your edges are full enough. The stash is insanely fun to ride, you just need to get creative

Having skied mount snows parks my entire life i can honestly say that i think mount snows park have the best flow. that being said stratton has never impressed me and most of the kids ive met have been douchy. Loon kicks fucking ass as does sugakush. killi is good. yes they have cool features but from what ive seen there isnt a ton of variety from season to season. Sorry OP transworld SNOWBOARDING hit this one pretty good even to skiers

Why cant we just enjoy the resort we're at? I ride at mission ridge Winter Park Saskatchewan, Canada with 292 FT of vertical drop. These east coast mountains really don't seem too bad when you consider others!
