Virginia Senator Creigh Deeds has been hospitalized for a stab wound, and his son has reportedly been shot to death.

I'm for stricter gun laws and would even understand a total gun ban... What the fuck do you think? I was taking the pro gun stance, "banning guns is dumb because anyone can get an illegal gun so it would never work" and taking that to ask why are they also screaming, "obama/liberals/hillary want to take all our guns away and leave us defenseless! THEY WANT TO MAKE GUNS ILLEGAL!!".

Forgive me then, I misunderstood your point of view. I quickly breezed over your point without realizing it was a counter argument used to emphasize what you were trying to get a cross.

I personally couldnt care less about gun control. I dont have a gun, nor do I plan on owning one at this stage. I realize our government is incompetent and even if legislation was started, it would NEVER pass regardless of what I want.

Its not as though hispanics and blacks began on an equal footing as whites in this country. There are hundreds of years worth of institutionalized repression that contributed to the situtation the black and hispanic community is in today. It has nothing to do directly with race, but it has everything to do with the history of what a group went through because of its race.

People are more likely to turn to crime when they are poor, or feel there is no way for them to advance or survive through legal means, no matter which race. There is a catalog of reasons a mile long as to why non-whites are particularly impoverished in this country, from casual/incidental economic discrimination on one end of the spectrum to downright intimidation and violence at the other end. Its a hell of a lot harder to run a business when you're worried about your store being burned, and you and your family being lynched (to give an extreme example). And at least for blacks, this only occurred in the last century and a half. The rest of American history, they spent enslaved!

Its pretty fucking easy to look at statistics about non-white crime and draw conclusions, but it is SUPREMELY important to remember that we, white people, are responsible for the vast majority of their situation and suffering.

Oh that's cool. Hundreds of years of oppression and forced to live in slums/ghettos while being denied education and jobs is really offset by 20 years of affirmative action... especially when education is so rare that hardly any of the people in poverty know that it exists.

When my grandfathers parents came here from Ireland in the late 1800s there were signs that said Irish need not apply... They were beaten in the streets... Called names etc. Given no opportunity and had no money in pocket.



Grandfather became one of te most famous doctors in Connecticut.

When my mom came here from Italy she knew no English... she was 1 of 9 and her mother was a widow. She lived in a one room house with her 9 siblings and her mother and it was missing part of the roof. Her and all her siblings worked their asses off and made lives for themselves... One of them being a millionaire.

1. There's no record of any business in the U.S. that had a sign saying "Irish need not apply" hanging in their windows. That never happened and you're a fucking idiot for believing it. My grandmother was right off the boat and had no problem getting a job or marrying a white American.

2. Comparing immigrant life at the height of xenophobia to life during and after slavery is stupid on so many levels... you might as well compare the Holocaust to the Japanese-American internment camps.

3. They may not have been given any opportunities but they certainly weren't legally denied jobs, places to live and eat, or even education due to the color of their skin, you god damned jackass.

4. There have been plenty of black people to get out of the ghetto and become successful. The fact that you're trying to say that most black people somehow want to stay poor and in ghettos by using a "success" story of one of your relatives shows that you're a fucking racist.

I will never own a gun for protection. Nothing I posess is so valuable that it's worth potentially taking another persons life. I don't have a family to consider at this time, but even if I did, having never shot anything other than a pellet gun, I seriously doubt I would have the fortitude to pull the trigger on another human being.

There was a kid in our high school that killed his brother messing around with their Dad's gun like 5 years back. Apparently, they did some shrooms and started fucking around with the gun. The one kid pulled the trigger on the other one thinking the gun was loaded with blanks. The kid died shortly thereafter.

I don't have a gun in my home, but it would be something I would consider to have for protection, guaranteed there would be extreme safeguards against it being accessible to children.

I suppose. I'm banking on the likelihood I will never be in that kind of a situation. I don't know anyone in my personal life who has been in a situation where they need a weapon to protect their lives. A few peoples houses have been broken into, but not while they've been at home.

I know some in my professional life (social worker), but those people live high risk lifestyles (gangs, drugs, addictions, prostitution, mental health issues, etc).

I had typed something up sort of regarding this, but mobile NS ducked it up. I was speaking hypothetically. I have a CPL, but I don't carry. My guns stay unloaded in a safe in my bedroom closet and I keep one loaded magazine in there as well. If someone broke into my house while I was home, I would barricade myself and my fiancee in the bedroom (assuming this is at night), call the cops, and hope the intruder took what they wanted and left. If possible, I'd try to get to my gun, load it, and point it at the door, but I wouldn't seek out confrontation.

That's where responsibility comes into play. Proper storage of firearms and teaching kids firearm safety at an early age. They need to know it's not a toy and to respect what it can do if used improperly.

I don't live in fear I just would rather have one for the what ifs. I wear a seat belt whenever I drive not because I'm scared, but again because I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I also agree that a true, life-defending situation would be incredibly rare, and I don't actively plan or prepare for one. I shoot targets for fun lol. I don't pretend I'm John Wayne and certainly don't consider how I'm going to protect my life on a daily basis, especially living in a pretty nice suburb.

I guess my logic is that someone who takes the time to stealthily break in by picking a lock or crawling in a window is probably there for your stuff, not you. They probably wouldn't have even broken in if they knew you were home. If that's the case, they can have it. I'm not gonna run down and risk my life over a few hundred/thousand bucks. If someone is there with the intent of taking your stuff an killing you anyway, why bother being quiet? I guess I just hope I hear them come in? I don't know haha.

Yeah, I can definitely see your point. I guess it just comes down to the fact that, for me, my guns are range toys that COULD be used for home defense in that. 01% situation, rather than home defense weapons that I practice with at the range. Neither is wrong, per second, and you'll definitely have a better chance of surviving an encounter than I will, but I'm ok with taking my chances.

One thing I will agree with you on is the warning pump. The sound my dad's Mossberg 590 Tactical makes when you chamber/eject a shell would be downright terrifying to hear if you weren't the one doing it, and you'd be a fool not to be leaving haha.

I don't know how long it would put em down or if I'd try to tie someone up, but it would sure as hell make em think twice about trying to come at you a second time. Also cuts down the fear of not pulling the trigger if you're nervous about taking the life of an attacker.

Besides I just follow em up with a couple slugs at the end just in case.


And AR6 you got that right. Mine is a mossy 590 and it's quite and intimidating firearm for sure.

Everyone has a different level of comfort. My 2 brothers and i all have a different level of readiness. My brother in florida carries 100% of the time, even at work, and hes a dentist. My other brother rarely carries and has all his guns in a safe like you. I fall right in the middle. To each his own
