here is john meyer author of that how racing is better than freeskiing article's response to my two page email..

I have no interest in free-riding -- it looks boring to me -- but I wasn't
criticizing it so much as criticizing one of the competitors in the sport
who said some really moronic things about ski racing. It was natural for me
to do this while covering World Cup races involving what I believe to be the
best skiers in the world.

There is no shortage of people in the ski media who will fawn over the
free-skiing movement at the expense of traditional ski disciplines. My own
newspaper was full of such stories less than two weeks ago. I'm just
defending 'old school' amid the onslaught of stories about 'new school.'

Skiing has always been about freedom. Have fun any way you like, but don't
criticize ski racing or try to say Tanner Hall is a better skier than Bode
Miller. That's absurd.

This guy is a FUCKING MORON for saying that. Because, those are two completey different types of skiing.

This guy has no right to say bode miller is a better skier than Tanner Hall, because that is also absurd.

Can tanner beat out bode in a downhill ski race? hell no, is bode pushing his side of the sport? yes

Can Bode throw cork 7's over chad's? Diaster switch 630 on a rail, throw sitch rodeo 1080 with style, nollie onto a urban rail, throw a cork 3 off a cornice into a 180 off a cliff into powder and ski the rest of his line in AK. Hell no
is tanner pushing his side of the sport? hell yes

This guy is an old ingorant paper pusher, who needs to open his eyes, and realize that you can't compare them, ya there both on skis and turn, but apples and oranges are both fruits but you can't compare those.

What's 'laughable' is a free skier predicting the demise of ski racing.

I suspect free skiing and ski racing will be able to co-exist just fine.

As for being one-sided, what I wrote is a column, which by definition is an
opinion piece. My colleague Scott Willoughby wrote 5 times as many words
extolling the free skiing movement for the Sunday paper about 10 years ago.
I just wanted people to know ski racing isn't dying -- despite what morons
like Tanner Hall think.

I don't care what Hall and other free skiers choose to do for fun, but when
they criticize ski racing I have to point out how wrong they are.

By the way, I take back one thing I wrote. I wrote that Hall couldn't come
within 15 seconds of Rahlves on this course, but the more I think about it,
I don't think he could finish within 45 seconds of Rahlves.

You ought to come up here and watch these guys race at 80 mph. You might enjoy it.

I dunno what the big deal is. They are both great skiers in their own event. Yea racing is gay, but some people must enjoy it, so let them have their gates, we will have out big moutains, and rails and jumps, and we would fuck them up in a fight

thise dude blows what tanner said way out of proportion, tanner's point was more about how much more money and hype they get...and never did he say he could beat bode or anyone down in a race course, he said 'i'll make it to the bottom'...this guy is just closed-minded
i don;t have a probelm with racers at all, but i do have a probelm with people like this writer

If he's so sure that Newschooling wont affect Racing in terms of popularity, then why does he feel the need to defend Racing? Newschooling is rising and challanging Racing as what the modern 'pro skier' is.

in last year's warren miller movie, bode miller and a few other guys whose names i dont recall at the moment went skiing in alaska. bode skiied right along with the big mountan veterans that were there with him. i am not defending either side here, just saying that anyone who rips on bode because he races should reconsider. the guy may not throw down in the park like tanner does, but i think it would be a close call outside of the park or race course.
