Alpental backcountry without touring setup

So I always hear that Alpental backcountry is super accessible, but that theres a long traverse to get to the terrain. I dont have touring bindings and was wondering if I could access the Alpental bc.

If the chair is spinning you dont need a touring setup.

A lot of the back country you can just hop right into, but everyone and there mom started skiing back there so it gets tracked out crazy fast.

Agree. I would add that Avy gear is highly, highly recommended. The chance of getting blown out by a huge slide is pretty low, but there are plenty of unstable zones out there. Transceiver, probe, shovel and AvyLung are just a good idea.

There is definitely stuff that slides often and the bigger concern is that everything high funnels down into rocky chutes. Everyone that goes back there should take and avy 1 and have a beacon/shovel/probe and the knowledge to use them.

Yes, having a transceiver, probe, availing, shovel, airbag, snow science kit, climbing harness, 12 quick draws, 60 ft or rope, a whippit, and 6 feet of webbing will ensure you never get caught in an avalanche and be able to safely navigate the entire Alpental backcountry behind the other 600,000 people.
