Does PBP Need To Step up their Game?

Ok... Im a pretty big poor boyz fan, but i feel like the stoke of their movies are going down. For instance, Everyone i know was stoked about Every Day Is a Saturday, Revolver, Ski Porn and of course YEAH DUDE!
Its not that the level of skiing is going down because all of those guys kill it. Its just i dont feel the fun behind their movies. They feel kind of fake and broken up, too much thinking about money and not the joy of skiing. In all they should just get back to their fun routes and keep killin it.

PBP's streak of making sick movies ended with Revolver. The Grand Bizarre simply didn't have the same stoke level of EDIAS or any of its predecessors, and they lost the feel-good vibe in their films. I respect them for what they do, but the last 3 years has been dominated by Sherpa's, L1P, and Stept, and PBP hasn't been able to keep up.

I liked Revolver. It was just talked poorly of because it followed EDIAS.

yes some parts of it sucked, but dane, riley, sammy, powis, durstchi, and dumont all had dope ass parts. I feel like all people remember is the dubstep and clunker parts and not the banger parts above.

agreed. making a movie to follow up edias appropriately would've been near impossible. revolver was a good flick but compared to eye trip, just felt lacking.
i do agree that poor boyz has declined recently. i am excited for level 1's release every year, but i bought WE. almost a year ago and still haven't watched it. oh well

Not even close. War was that last great Poorboyz film; up until then they were untouchable. Ever since, not bad, not great, just a stale formula. The day Decesare takes full control they will return to form.

Johnny D = Greg Stump. For some reason they lost the ski "stoke" and stepped away. I think that why Level 1 movies still rule.........Berman is there working on them still. Those guys all have a vision that is hard to duplicate.

in addition i feel like partering up with redbull media suites or whatever its called made them cater to their sponsors too much and now the redbull machines dominate pbp movies too much and style and creativity went to the wayside for popularity based, gopro-wearing jocks. Dont get me wrong some of their riders like karl, leigh, and stack still give me a tingle when i watch their riding, but the rest of it seems dull and overplayed unlike level 1 which is filled with those kinds of riders. I think the superunkown contest is what fuels this kind of creativity. Bringing in young skiers with a new outlook on the sport and the same tricks done a different way is what gives me stoke for level 1 every year, and pbp continues to use the same riders under contract.

EDIAS was the last good full movie. ever since then there have been good segments in their movies, the movie as a whole has been terrible

Yes PBP were once one of the big film companies a couple of seasons back, however WE and Tracing Skylines were both horrible movies, it'll be hard to stay if they'll ever reach that old level again.

PBP movies just have no flow at all. Any type of storytelling they do is so cliche and scripted. They have also lost pretty much all of the talent from the glory days.

1242 was their last great movie from start to finish in my opinion, and one of the best "newschool" (for lack of a better term) ski movies in history (id put it up there with teddybear crisis, royalty, stereotype).
Since then pbp has put out movies with iconic parts but quite a bit of filler parts as well (anthony boronoski in X, pep in war, dane in EDIAS).

I think I don't give Johnny D enough credit but other people give him too much. In my opinion the reason 1242 was so great wasn't just Johnny's contribution, it was the fact that everyone cared so much about their video parts back then and having the perfect mix of urban, backcountry, trick selection etc. You can tell when people really put a lot of work into a part when you watch it and when you watch 1242 its obvious.

Now with so many webclips, contests, and free video downloads, there are less pros out there that care as much about dedicating their entire season to filming one perfect part as they used to, and its not just skiing. Even skateboarding, which pretty much invented what we consider today to be the standards of a good snowboard/ski movie is going through the same crisis.

I don't think its PBP who is at fault here - it comes down to how the majority of people consume their ski media. We are leaving the ski movie era and entering the itunes movie/webclip/season edit era so its no wonder the movies are gonna suffer for it.

Grand Bizarre was pretty decent in my opinion on a strictly banger after banger basis. LJ has a dope urban and park seggy, Bobby hucks his meat, Clayton and Cam have some rad shots, Martini is there. Then BAM cubed pipe. And it has a beauty closing segment with Sammy mixing up da medicine.

WE is the absolute worse thing in history. Didn't bother watching tracing skylines beyond that boring ass trailer.
